Job Title: Principal UX Designer
Duration: 12 Months
Location: Hybrid (On-site presence in Sacramento required as needed)

Position Overview:

A public-sector digital platform is seeking a Principal UX Designer to lead user-centered design efforts across multiple digital platforms, including internet, intranet, and internal web applications. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in UX research, design systems, accessibility compliance, and front-end design tools such as Figma. This is a deliverables-based role with monthly review and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead user-centered UX design across digital platforms

  • Conduct user research and analyze data to generate actionable insights

  • Create UX analysis documents, wireframes, user flows, and responsive prototypes using Figma

  • Apply and maintain compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards throughout the design lifecycle

  • Maintain design version control in Figma and deliver final design assets

  • Conduct browser and QA testing during system testing phases
  • Present UX findings and design strategies to stakeholders

  • Provide knowledge transfer and support for UX design strategy across teams

Key Deliverables (Monthly):

  • Conduct user research and stakeholder interviews

  • Analyze user analytics and existing workflows

  • Organize and prioritize information architecture

  • Map new workflows and design wireframes/user flows for responsive design

  • Build functional prototypes for usability testing

  • Conduct findings presentations and submit UX documentation for review

  • Maintain version history in Figma tied to design releases

  • Provide QA support and feedback during system testing

  • Deliver finalized assets and transfer UX knowledge across the organization

  • Submit weekly status reports

Evaluation Criteria:

Total Points: 40

  1. Principal UX Experience (10 Points):
    At least 5 years of experience in UX design using human-centered design methodologies for web, mobile, and responsive applications. Knowledge of HTML5 (Flexbox, CSS Grid), CSS3 (SASS), JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap, and other modern front-end technologies.

  2. Design Systems & Prototyping (10 Points):
    Minimum 5 years of experience designing user flows, wireframes, prototyping, and creating pattern-based design systems.

  3. Figma Expertise (10 Points):
    Advanced proficiency in Figma, including component creation, prototyping, and version control.

  4. Process Improvement & Lifecycle Planning (5 Points):
    Strong background in process and design improvements, project planning, and working within Agile or software development lifecycles.

  5. Accessibility Standards Experience (5 Points):
    Proven experience designing accessible user interfaces in compliance with Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA (or higher), especially in government or regulated industries.
