Assembler and Field Repair Break Fix Technician
Our client, a prestigious Federal contractor, is seeking an energetic, and motivated Assembler and Field Repair Break Fix Technician to work onsite at their Sterling, VA facility.
The position begins with you working as an Assembler/Break-Fix Technician, fabricating and repairing mission-critical components. Once trained, you'll transition into a Field Service Technician, traveling to maintain and upgrade deployed CBP systems. When not traveling, the work will be at the Sterling, VA location performing Assembler and System Integration Tasks.
Assembler / Break-Fix Technician Responsibilities
--'-- Mount components to pre-drilled panels (PC104 SBC, I/O paddleboard, power supply, Ethernet hub, terminal blocks on DIN rail).
--'-- Install factory-built cables and custom hookup wiring between components.
--'-- Install AC power plugs and drill polycarbonate enclosures using templates.
--'-- Fit waterproof connectors and install duplex outlets in enclosures.
--'-- Package and label controllers for shipment; assist with palletizing.
--'-- Use duplicators to clone hard drives; remove/reinstall drives for reimaging.
--'-- Configure BIOS settings on microcomputers.
--'-- Perform maintenance to ensure compliance with build standards.
--'-- Support data gathering for analytics and report findings promptly.
--'-- Travel to CBP Ports of Entry to perform system maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
--'-- Diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions to minimize downtime.
--'-- Respond to emergency repair requests including travel and provide on-call support (Mon--'-"Fri).
--'-- Maintain accurate records of maintenance schedules, repair histories, and inventory.
--'-- Adhere to OSHA and local safety regulations while performing field tasks, uphold all, physical, and operational security policies.
--'-- Maintain professionalism when interacting with CBP personnel.
--'-- Work across Windows and Linux operating systems to support system integration.
--'-- Use Windows CLI and Linux shell environments for configuration and diagnostics.
--'-- Configure and optimize system performance through BIOS and OS-level settings.
--'-- Collaborate with engineering and software teams to support deployments and updates.

- Strong troubleshooting skills for complex electronic and mechanical systems.
- Experience across a wide range of technologies, including:
o Microsoft Windows and Linux Operating Systems.
o DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, Certificate Services, Group Policies.
o ServiceNow ticketing system.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; capable of writing clear technical reports.
- Skilled in using diagnostic tools, hand/power tools, and software for maintenance and repair.
- Excellent communication skills, especially when explaining technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills for documentation and inventory tracking.
- Able to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of low-voltage electrical wiring principles.
- Proficient in CAT 6 signal cabling, including testing and termination.
- Willingness to travel to U.S. border locations for installations and support (up to two weeks at a time).
