Job Summary:
We re seeking an experienced Progress (OpenEdge) DBA to join our IT infrastructure team. As part of a remote-first environment, you'll manage and optimize our Progress OpenEdge deployments, support mission-critical applications, and collaborate closely with tech and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer and optimize Progress OpenEdge databases in production and development environments.
Perform maintenance tasks such as dump/load operations, integrity checks, backup/recovery, indexing, and patching.
Implement and manage database features including Replication (Pro2), TDE (Transparent Data Encryption), After-Image, auditing, etc.
Plan and execute platform upgrades and migrations, ensuring minimal downtime and accountability to change-management standards.
Monitor database health, performance tuning, and resource utilization using tools like OpenEdge Management or similar.
Automate routine DBA tasks through scripting (e.g., Bash, PowerShell) to improve consistency and efficiency.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues swiftly to maintain business continuity.
Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and support teams on architectural changes and deployments.
Optionally offer support on a rotational on-call basis for incident response and escalation.
Document processes, performance benchmarks, and system configurations for knowledge-sharing and compliance.
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 8 years of experience administering Progress OpenEdge (versions 11.x/12.x) in production environments.
Strong experience across UNIX/Linux (e.g., RHEL) and Windows platforms.
Proficiency with scripting languages (Bash, PowerShell, Windows batch).
Hands-on experience with Progress features: Replication (Pro2), After-Image, TDE, auditing, dump/load, etc.
Proven ability in migrations/upgrades, performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
Familiarity with n-tier architectures, PASOE, and Classic AppServer setups is a plus.
Knowledge of middleware & DataServers (e.g., SQL92, MSSQL, Oracle integration) is advantageous.
Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to translate technical issues for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong troubleshooting mindset and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have):
Certification or consulting experience specifically with OpenEdge.
Experience in remote DBA roles and consulting capacities.
Prior involvement in on-call rotations or 24/7 support models.
