Job Title: Specialized Subject Matter Expert (Chemical Specialist)

Job Summary:

The Chemical Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert in chemical, biological, and radioactive data management, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and safety protocols. The role involves managing chemical inventories, analyzing data, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to maintain accurate and secure records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Management:
    • Manage and maintain chemical, biological, and radioactive data in compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Ensure accuracy and integrity of data entered into databases (e.g., RSS Library).
    • Rapidly identify and correct discrepancies or inaccuracies in data.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure adherence to California, US Federal, and international regulations (e.g., OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, DOT, GHS).
    • Stay updated on evolving safety and handling protocols for hazardous materials.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Utilize research information software and tools (e.g., ChemDraw, Chemdoodle, AIHA tools).
    • Interpret chemical nomenclature, classifications, and properties for accurate data entry and reporting.
  • Laboratory & Inventory Support:
    • Assist with laboratory inventory management, including tracking and documentation of hazardous materials.
    • Collaborate with lab personnel to ensure safe handling and storage practices.
  • Communication & Collaboration:
    • Prepare detailed reports and communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Work within multidisciplinary teams to troubleshoot data-related issues.
  • Project Management:
    • Lead or support projects related to chemical library updates, regulatory audits, and safety initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Radiation Sciences, EH&S, or a related field.
    • Advanced degrees (Master s/PhD) preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience in chemical/biological/radioactive data management.
    • Hands-on laboratory experience (e.g., inventory management, safety protocols).
    • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (GHS, CAS, InChI, OSHA, EPA).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., ChemDraw, Chemdoodle) and databases.
    • Ability to interpret complex scientific nomenclature and regulatory documents.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with EH&S software or risk management platforms.
  • Knowledge of international chemical regulations (e.g., REACH, CLP).
  • Project management experience in EH&S or related fields.

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid/on-site with potential exposure to laboratory or industrial settings.
  • Compliance with safety protocols (PPE, hazardous material handling) is mandatory.
