PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) - AWS Aurora
Location: Remote Northern California Preferred
Working Hours: Pacific Time Zone
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) with deep
expertise in AWS Aurora PostgreSQL to design, optimize, and maintain high-
performance, secure, and scalable database systems. The successful candidate will play
a key role in defining and implementing PostgreSQL best practices, supporting CI/CD
automation, and ensuring system reliability across multiple environments.
Key Responsibilities
Create data structures such as tables, views, and schemas based on technical specifications.
Develop and maintain stored procedures, triggers, and functions to support application
logic.
Implement authorization-level security using PostgreSQL roles and privileges.
Maintain compliance with organizational and regulatory data protection standards.
Implement physical performance optimizations through indexes, partitions, and
materialized views.
Conduct logical performance tuning through SQL optimization and query analysis.
Configure and tune AWS Aurora performance and scalability features to ensure efficient
database operation.
Identify and implement PostgreSQL and AWS cost optimization opportunities.
Design and implement high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) architectures
leveraging AWS Aurora features.
Conduct cross-environment data cloning and synchronization.
Work with DevOps teams to implement PostgreSQL CI/CD pipelines for automated
deployment and versioning.
Develop code generators to automate recurring administration tasks using PostgreSQL
metadata tables.
Define and enforce PostgreSQL best practices including deployment processes, performance
baselines, and security standards.
Document architectures, procedures, and data models using Confluence and Lucidchart.
Mandatory Qualifications
5+ years of experience administering PostgreSQL databases.
2+ years of hands-on experience administering AWS Aurora PostgreSQL.
4+ years performing physical and logical performance tuning for PostgreSQL.
Proven experience implementing AWS Aurora high availability features.
Demonstrated ability to work with DevOps teams to design and deploy PostgreSQL CI/CD
pipelines.
Hands-on experience developing PostgreSQL code generators using metadata tables.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA, PCI).
Prior experience tuning performance for Talend-generated SQL statements.
Experience with PostgreSQL CI/CD automation tools (e.g., Liquibase, Flyway, or equivalent).
Preferred Skills
Deep understanding of PostgreSQL internals and Aurora architecture.
Proficiency in AWS services such as CloudWatch, IAM, and CloudFormation.
Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
Excellent written documentation and communication skills.
