Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 33 local health districts.
The IT Security Specialist is responsible for safeguarding computer data, maintaining system security, and ensuring the functionality and efficiency of VDH networks and servers.
The IT Security Specialist will implement security protocols, collaborate with users to address concerns, and ensure that data is protected from unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction.
This position also involves maintaining up-to-date anti-virus protection systems, conducting risk assessments, performing vulnerability scans and staying informed on the latest security threats.
The Virginia Department of Health offers 12 paid holidays, medical, dental, vision and life insurance, retirement plans (including 401a Cash Match and 457 Deferred Compensation Plan) as well as sick, family/personal, and annual leave.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience in cybersecurity, data protection, and risk management.
In-depth knowledge of security principles, firewalls, anti-virus software, encryption, and vulnerability testing.
Strong understanding of network protocols, security technologies, and system administration.
Ability to collaborate effectively with users, vendors, and internal teams.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in assessing risk and security needs.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
