Background
Strengthening Utah's Food Safety with Technology
- The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and quality of food products within the state. The UDAF Regulatory Division's Food Safety Management System (FSMS) is at the forefront of this mission, and we're seeking a skilled iOS Developer to join the Division of Technology Services' team that is tasked to maintain and enhance the iOS application that supports the FSMS.
About the FSMS iOS Application
This application is a key tool used by UDAF field agents to conduct inspections at food manufacturing, retail, and dairy facilities. It streamlines the inspection process by enabling agents to:
- Collect and record data on-site
- Capture product samples and associate them with inspection data
- Transmit inspection data and sample information directly to the State Lab for analysis
- Make inspection data available for reporting and display on the FSMS web application.
Principal Duties
- Application Maintenance and Support: Ensure the FSMS iOS application remains fully functional according to the needs of the end users, up-to-date, and aligned with evolving iOS standards.
- New Feature Development: Collaborate with UDAF's Regulatory Division staffto identify areas for improvement and develop new features that enhance the application's functionality and user experience.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with both the Regulatory Division, and at times the State Lab, to gather requirements, understand workflows, and ensure the application effectively supports the end-to-end food safety inspection process.
- Quality Assurance: Implement rigorous testing and debugging protocols to deliver a high-quality, reliable application.
- Documentation: Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of the application's codebase, features, and user guides.
- User Training and Support: Provide training and ongoing support to UDAF Regulatory Division staffon the effective use of the FSMS iOS application.
Minimum Qualifications
- Technical Expertise:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 5+ years of professional iOS development experience
- Proficiency in Swift and Objective-C
- Deep understanding of iOS frameworks, design patterns, and best practices
- Experience with Xcode, Interface Builder, and other relevant development tools
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs, data serialization, and database interactions
- Experience with offline data storage and synchronization
- Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex problems, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions.
- Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Commitment to Food Safety: A genuine interest in supporting UDAF's mission to protect public health through food safety.
