As a Printing Engineer in the Advanced Process Lab within Manufacturing Design, you will lead print color development trials from initial color match to color tuning DOEs on production scale equipment. Working in our Silicon Valley lab, this is a very hands on position working with our ink suppliers within your own lab.

Description You will be responsible for delivering screen printing on glass, and occasionally other process such as spray coating or pad printing. - Work with your counterparts in the Coatings Subject Matter Experts team and our suppliers to develop and optimize ink and coating processes. Coordinate suppliers on site to assist, execute trial plans and communicate out results for alignment on next steps. - Create process trials for optimizing material thickness and cosmetics. Document trial process and materials, measure samples, and report out results. - Run trials personally operating the equipment in all aspects of mixing inks, operate printing machines, curing ovens, and clean up. - Receive and review work requested for color development. Fine tune screen printing and curing processes for ink thickness and print quality. - Design and specify screens, fixtures, equipment and align registration. - Monitor ink shelf life, viscosity, filtration, and ink mixing equipment. - Own the lab space, ordering all materials, equipment maintenance, and scheduling. - Practice good lab cleanliness and insure all Environmental, Health & Safety procedures are followed. - Full time on campus 5days/wk, no hybrid, no remote.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years experience in printing highly aesthetic products to tight cosmetic tolerances, preferably with inks and screen printing experience.
  • Strong understanding of color theory and color space (CIELAB, CIELCh), and instrumentation for color and gloss measurement required.
  • Ability to visually assess color match required.
  • Travel 5-25% as needed.
  • Minimum B.S. degree or equivalent experience in Printing Technology, Chemistry, Materials, or related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiar with data analysis tools such as JMP and Minitab.
  • Experience color matching with superior color visual acuity.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and ability to align registration across multiple process steps.
  • CAD, basic machine shop, and 3D print skills to make fixtures, trays, and process tools.

Pay & Benefits At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $157,200 and $236,700, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
