Systems Administrator Lead

Location: Fort Lee, Virginia

Clearance: Secret

Description:

HigherEchelon is seeking a Systems Administrator Lead responsible for overseeing all enterprise server and domain administration tasks supporting the CASCOM G6 infrastructure. This position provides Tier III escalation support, manages patching and configuration through SCCM, and ensures Active Directory, Group Policy, and domain services are secure, functional, and aligned with mission requirements. The role is located at Fort Gregg-Adams, VA, and requires a full-time, on-site presence with an active DoD Secret clearance.

This position is contingent upon contract award.

Job Responsibilities:

Manage daily operations of on-premise and virtualized server environments.

Lead patching, configuration management, and compliance enforcement using SCCM.

Monitor and maintain Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy, and domain join operations.

Perform backups, restoration testing, and account management for staff and classroom systems.

Coordinate with networking staff and service desk for system-related escalations and troubleshooting.

Analyze performance issues and implement optimizations for availability and scalability.

Maintain detailed system documentation, continuity books, and support SOPs.

Provide security hardening, STIG compliance, and support for RMF/auditing activities.

Mentor junior system administrators and act as a technical lead across Windows-based platforms.

Required Skills:

Expert-level skills in managing SCCM, WSUS, and Windows Server 2016/2019/2022.

Leadership in patch management, system baselining, and escalated Tier III support.

Coordination with networking and support teams for system troubleshooting.


Must have a Secret security clearance

Desired Skills:

Experience supporting TRADOC or Army training environments.

Familiarity with DoD RMF, DISA STIGs, and automated compliance enforcement tools.

Experience managing classroom images, gold builds, and coordinated mass deployments.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field.

Minimum of 6 years of hands-on systems administration in DoD or enterprise environments.

Certifications required:
  • CompTIA Security+ (IAT Level II baseline)
  • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate or equivalent
  • ITIL v4 Foundation (or equivalent service management experience)
