Job Title: Release Train Engineer (RTE)
Work Location: Remote
Duration: Long-term
Note: Candidates should be able to travel 2 -3 days quarterly to Springfield, IL, as per client requirement, based on project Needs. They also need to travel to Springfield or Chicago, IL, for fingerprinting.
Must-Have Skills & Requirements:
- Valid RTE Certification
- SAFe Certifications (minimum of 3-4)
- 10+ years of experience as a Release Train Engineer
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong proactive approach
- Demonstrated experience leading 8-12 teams in previous projects (minimum 8 teams required)
- Prior consulting experience
- State government client experience (preferred)
Position Description:
The Release Train Engineer (RTE) plays a critical leadership role within the Agile Release Train (ART), ensuring seamless coordination, execution, and delivery across multiple Agile teams. The RTE acts as a servant leader and coach, facilitating ART processes and program execution, while driving continuous improvement and fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and relentless improvement. The RTE ensures alignment of team deliverables with business objectives and facilitates organizational success through structured Program Increment (PI) Planning and other key ART events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitate Program Increment (PI) Planning sessions to ensure alignment across teams and stakeholders, enabling strategic planning and execution.
- Manage the Agile Release Train backlog, overseeing refinement and prioritization efforts to maintain development flow and efficiency.
- Ensure PI Planning readiness by preparing teams and stakeholders, defining clear objectives, identifying dependencies, and assessing risks.
- Foster cross-team collaboration to drive continuous delivery, execution excellence, and the achievement of ART goals.
- Actively identify, remove, and escalate impediments while coordinating with stakeholders to resolve cross-team blockers and dependencies.
- Track ART execution progress against defined objectives, facilitating key ART ceremonies such as Scrum of Scrums, System Demos, and Inspect and Adapt (I&A) workshops.
- Provide actionable insights to support data-driven decision-making, planning, and prioritization efforts.
- Oversee and manage action items and issue resolutions across teams to ensure smooth execution and proactive risk mitigation.
Optional Experience and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor s degree in computer science, Business Administration, or a related field (master s degree preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in Agile Program Management, Scrum Master, or Release Train Engineer roles.
- SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) Certification is strongly preferred.
