Quality Assurance Tester Medicaid Systems (Mainframe / COBOL / JCL)

This role is open due to ongoing projects and tickets managed by MITS/DHHS, as well as upcoming initiatives such as DASH and Translator upgrades. The position is critical to ensuring compliance with federally mandated changes for South Carolina s Medicaid System.
Scope of the Project
The QA Tester will support software coding changes to Medicaid systems by designing, executing, and validating test cases. Testing will involve collaboration with users, external healthcare providers, and trading partners. The role requires cross-agency coordination and integration with internal systems to ensure system reliability and compliance.
Daily Responsibilities

Design and execute detailed test scenarios for mainframe and distributed systems.

Perform functional, regression, and user acceptance testing (UAT) for Medicaid system changes.

Analyze test results, document variances, and coordinate resolution of defects.

Collaborate closely with SCDHHS, Clemson staff, and contracted teams to support QA and UAT efforts.

Ensure compliance with federal and state Medicaid requirements.

Communicate clearly and effectively in both written and verbal formats to stakeholders and project teams.
Note: This is strictly a Quality Assurance Tester role not a developer, business analyst, or project manager position.
Required Skills (ranked in order of importance)

Strong background in Mainframe, MVS COBOL, JCL.

Proven software testing experience, including creation of test scenarios and execution.

Ability to analyze results and resolve discrepancies between expected and actual outcomes.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, adaptability, and time management.
Preferred Skills
-
CA-ADS and SQL.
-
Serena Changeman or similar change control tools.
-
Familiarity with Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS), Medicaid eligibility, or claims processing.

Experience with testing tools and healthcare IT systems.
Education & Experience
-
Bachelor s degree required.

Hands-on experience in Quality Assurance testing within mainframe environments.
