We are a national staffing firm and are currently seeking a Communications Consultant for a prominent client of ours. This position is located in Cambridge, MA Details for the position are as follows:

Job Description:
Location: Cambridge, MA (Hybrid - 3 days onsite)
Contract: 6 months with possible extension

Position Summary

Our client is seeking a Senior Manager, R&D Communications to join the Global Corporate Affairs team as a temporary member supporting the Head of R&D Communications. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned communications professional with deep experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry and a passion for science-driven storytelling. This role will be instrumental in shaping and amplifying Biogen s scientific narrative across both internal and external channels, supporting executive visibility, and driving high-impact communication initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Communications Support
    • Partner with the Head of R&D Communications to develop and execute integrated communication plans aligned with R&D and corporate priorities.
    • Translate complex scientific and medical concepts into engaging, clear narratives for diverse audiences.
    • Create and manage content for internal communications (town halls, newsletters, intranet) and external platforms (media, social channels, speaking engagements).
  • Executive Engagement
    • Support R&D leaders with briefing materials, talking points, and presentation decks for internal and external events.
    • Provide communications guidance to senior leadership with confidence and professionalism.
  • Content Development
    • Draft, edit, and publish high-quality materials, including articles, announcements, video scripts, and executive communications.
    • Ensure consistent tone and messaging across all R&D communications channels.
  • Stakeholder Management & Collaboration
    • Work closely with R&D Chiefs of Staff, Corporate Communications, HR, and other cross-functional partners to ensure alignment.
    • Build strong relationships across scientific and corporate teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree required (Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field).
  • 5+ years of professional communications experience, with strong preference for biotech, pharmaceutical, or healthcare industry experience.
  • Demonstrated success in developing communications strategies and deliverables for both internal and external audiences.
  • Strong knowledge of scientific terminology and familiarity with the biotech regulatory environment.
  • Experience partnering with R&D teams and translating technical/scientific content into clear, impactful communications.
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills with strong editorial judgment.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver under tight deadlines.
  • High degree of executive presence; comfortable working directly with senior leaders.

  • Portfolio or writing samples to demonstrate communication style and storytelling capabilities.
