Key Responsibilities:

  • Working Hours: 8am-5pm (possible OT)
  • The Biocentre HBS Relocation Technician plays a critical role in the Biocentre s operation by ensuring the accurate, timely, and compliant receipt, storage, and dispatch of biological specimens and materials.
  • This individual will handle temperature-sensitive biological products, maintain rigorous documentation, and support the Biocentre s commitment to quality and regulatory standards.
  • Sample Receipt & Verification: Receive incoming specimens; verify chain-of-custody, documentation, subject IDs, and consent flags; reconcile discrepancies and escalate issues.
  • Accessioning & LIMS Entry: Accession samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS); apply barcodes and labeling standards; ensure accurate metadata capture (matrix, volume, aliquots, collection date/time, freeze thaw count).
  • Storage & Inventory Control: Place samples in appropriate temperature-controlled storage (ambient, 4 C, 20 C, 80 C, LN2) per stability profiles; maintain accurate location mapping and inventory counts; conduct regular reconciliations.
  • Sample Retrieval & Distribution: Pick, pack, and ship samples to internal labs and external partners; prepare documentation, temperature loggers, and manifests; ensure compliance with IATA and UN3373 requirements.
  • Quality & Compliance: Follow GxP, (as applicable), ISO 20387 and biobank SOPs; participate in internal audits, CAPAs, and continuous improvement activities; maintain training records.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Monitor freezers and LN2 tanks; respond to alarms; perform daily/weekly checks and preventive maintenance tasks; document corrective actions.
  • Chain-of-Custody & Data Integrity: Maintain complete audit trails; ensure data accuracy, version control, and secure handling of sensitive information.
  • Health, Safety, and Biosecurity: Adhere to Biosafety Level requirements; use PPE; manage spill response and waste disposal; support risk assessments and incident reporting.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Author and update SOPs, job aids, and work instructions; generate inventory and KPI reports (e.g., accession TAT, error rates, retrieval accuracy).
  • Collaboration: Interface with clinical operations, study teams, lab scientists, and external vendors

Key Requirements and Technology Experience:

  • Key Skills; inventory systems or LIMS, logistics, shipping/receiving, or handling of biological materials, handling temperature-sensitive
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in laboratory, logistics, or life sciences preferred.
  • Previous experience in logistics, shipping/receiving, or handling of biological materials (biobank, clinical laboratory, biomedical, or related setting) strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with regulations for transporting biological materials (IATA, DOT, UN, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and record-keeping ability.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Comfortable in handling temperature-sensitive, perishable and potentially infections materials.
  • Basic computer literacy and experience with inventory systems or LIMS is an asset.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in laboratory, logistics, or life sciences preferred.
  • Previous experience in logistics, shipping/receiving, or handling of biological materials (biobank, clinical laboratory, biomedical, or related setting) strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with regulations for transporting biological materials (IATA, DOT, UN, etc.) is highly desirable.
