Network Engineer

Introduction:

This position is with the Edge Networking team within the Bureau of Infrastructure under the Pennsylvania Office of Administration (OA). The Network Engineer will provide network support to edge networks for assigned agencies within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, maintain, and manage network infrastructure consisting of switches, routers, firewalls, SD-WAN edge appliances, wireless infrastructure, and more.
  • Perform network management functions to monitor, test, troubleshoot, and resolve complex network problems.
  • Assist in planning and designing LAN/WAN network architecture.
  • Support change management efforts within the edge networking group.
  • Participate in Service Now and Remedy trouble ticket resolution and reporting.
  • Proactively identify and troubleshoot complex network issues.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on new and emerging technologies for network enhancements.
  • Prepare technical solutions and recommendations for current and future network needs.
  • Maintain documentation for network components and configurations.
  • Support remote IT staff and agency operations staff with network-related issues.

Requirements:

  • 4-5 years of experience in Network Switching
  • 3-4 years of experience in Network Routing
  • 2-3 years of experience with CCNA (desired)
  • 1-3 years of experience with CCNP (beneficial)
  • 2 years of experience with SD-WAN (beneficial)

Location: Remote, Must be local to PA

Job Location: Part-time telework with occasional travel to Harrisburg, PA.

Only candidates currently residing within the Greater Harrisburg Area will be considered for this position.

ADA Requirements:

Equipment in use in Job Performance: Personal Computers, servers, network components, telephones, calculator, copy machines, printers, faxes, cell phones, and common writing devices. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and work from a step ladder.

Decision Making:

Appropriately manage time and engage other edge networking teams as needed or required. Overall performance of the network team, availability/performance of the network, and customer satisfaction are factors used to determine the level of success.

Essential Functions:

  1. Obtain and maintain CJIS clearances
  2. Operate telephones/cell phones
  3. Operate a PC and peripherals/ servers and network components
  4. Operate motor vehicles and maintain a valid PA driver’s license
  5. Excellent oral and written communications skills using the English language
  6. Read and comprehend technical literature
  7. Lift equipment up to 40 pounds
  8. Ability to assess issues/problems and make appropriate decisions for resolution
  9. Stay current with new and emerging network-related trends and technologies
  10. Provide outstanding customer service
