We are seeking an experienced Legislative Specialist with a strong background in judicial and legislative processes, policy analysis, and forensic legislative research. This role supports legislative tracking and analysis related to the FBI CODIS program and forensic DNA initiatives, providing subject matter expertise to inform policy, compliance, and operational decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth legislative research and policy analysis related to forensic DNA, public safety, and criminal justice issues at the state and federal levels.
- Monitor, track, and interpret legislation and judicial rulings that impact the FBI CODIS program and its use by law enforcement agencies.
- Draft legislative summaries, policy briefs, and impact assessments for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with legal, forensic, and operational subject matter experts to ensure legislative insights align with program goals.
- Provide briefings and written reports to senior leadership, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and actionable recommendations.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation and research logs within SharePoint and other systems of record.
- Assist in responding to legislative inquiries and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests as needed.
- Use Microsoft Office tools to create high-quality reports, data visualizations, and presentations.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in judicial and legislative environments.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in legislative research, with preference for forensic DNA related research.
- Minimum of 3 years of working experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and SharePoint (user level).
- Active Top Secret Clearance (required).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the FBI CODIS program and its application in state and national law enforcement settings.
- Experience collaborating with law enforcement or government stakeholders on legislative and regulatory issues.
- Strong analytical, writing, and presentation skills.
