Vega is Hiring! EHS specialist with our direct client. Candidates will be required to work - 7am to 4pm CST, Monday to Friday. Seeking Candidates that are flexible with shift hours to support the client business.

The EHS Specialist candidate will provide EHS technical support to the Plant through coordination of EHS activities and programs. This role supports the implementation, execution, and maintenance of the environmental, health, and safety systems for the plant. As the Senior EHS Specialist, you will work collaboratively with the Corporate EHS team, Plant Management, Production, Maintenance, and Engineering team members and focus on various projects and initiatives within these teams. This position will provide support to EHS Specialists within the network. This position will report directly to the Director of EHS.

Essential Duties: Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Guide Environmental, Health, and Safety activities at one or more locations.
  • Practice safe working techniques and reinforce the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures as set out by the Company.
  • Monitor site-specific EHS leading and lagging indicators.
  • Support the execution of strategic initiatives within the plants.
  • Lead incident investigations, development of corrective actions, and communicate lessons learned in a timely, effective, and thorough manner.
  • Review accidents and incidents, conduct audits and reporting; oversee EHS corrective actions.
  • Ensure the plant is current on all relevant Environmental, Health and Safety documents in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Lead environmental compliance efforts and monitor permit requirements.
  • Identify training programs to meet plant needs, track training progress, and onboarding plant employees with environmental responsibilities.

  • Coordinate with Plant Manager, Production, Maintenance, and Engineering Departments on facility deficiencies through site audits and inspections.
  • Conduct audits to monitor personnel and workspace improvements.
  • Drive and guide the on-site EHS support that leads the plant s EHS management system through proactive engagement with the location EHS program champions to execute EHS policies and ensure compliance.
  • Ensure that Corporate EHS Applications are embedded in the operation and that these management practices drive the appropriate behavior.
  • Identify site-specific circumstances requiring changes to the EHS management system, and enable the successful implementation and sustainability at a local level.
  • Utilizing the EHS Enterprise System (Gensuite - EHS) - record and analyze accident and incident records and make recommendations regarding corrective actions, emphasizing pro-active intervention.
  • Partner with plant leadership and operators, ensuring that the plant is free from risks to the environment, health, and safety.
  • Assist with the new employee orientation process and ensure completion of EHS training for all employees.
  • Ensure the findings of accident investigations, safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments are brought to the attention of leadership and others who may be affected.
  • Use data to make recommendations on changes to training programs, SOPs, JSAs, and tools to prevent accidents, and educate and protect employees.
  • Work with Human Resources on Workers' Compensation cases, ensuring they are in line with company policy.
  • Coordinate with appropriate industry-related vendors and SMEs, related to the EHS needs of the organization.
  • Support sustainability operations assessments within the plant.
  • Support plant leadership on capital project planning to align sustainability efforts with capital and engineering projects.
  • Conduct hazard and operability studies on existing and new processes.
  • Perform other duties assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical or Environmental Engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional, (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Industrial Hygienist, (CIH) or Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience in workplace environmental, health and safety program management preferred.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management concepts like Management of Change preferred.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, policies, programs, PPE, environmental policies (EPA), safety engineering, accident/injury investigation procedures and operating rules, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with computer skills. (Google Suite)
  • Excellent organization and time management skills, flexibility, and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours and business travel when needed
