Job Title: Domain Architect
Duration: 12 months (Contract with conversion possibility)
Location: Plano, TX (Hybrid - minimum 3 days onsite, Tuesday through Thursday)

Description:

This position is with the Enterprise Architecture team, seeking a Domain Architect responsible for architecture and design decisions within a specific domain-combining strategic oversight with hands-on technical leadership.

Unlike traditional domain architects, this role demands deep technical involvement in the full application architecture and development lifecycle-translating business requirements into functioning software systems.

Domain Focus: Stability and productivity engineering (ServiceNow experience is a strong plus but not mandatory).

Core Responsibilities:

Strategic Domain Leadership (25%)

• Collaborate with domain, solution, technical, and application architects, and key stakeholders.
  

Hands-On Solution Design & Implementation (50%)

• Deep understanding of microservices, distributed computing, cloud computing (AWS preferred), and non-functional aspects of software architecture.
  
• Expertise in database design, data architecture, and full stack web application development (not coding daily, but capable of code review and technical validation).
  

Technical Leadership & Governance (25%)

• Propose technology solutions and participate in cross-domain architecture routines and governance processes.
  

Experience:

• 15-18+ years total experience, with 6-8+ years in architecture.
  
• 12-month contract with conversion potential.
  
• Onsite role (minimum 3 days per week).

Position Overview:

The Domain Architect is responsible for architecture and design decisions within a specific domain, balancing strategic vision with technical execution.
This role combines enterprise-level strategic planning with hands-on architecture and solution delivery to ensure alignment with Toyota's digital transformation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Domain Leadership (25%)

• Serve as part of the Domain Leadership Team to define technology strategy and direction.
  
• Accountable for all architecture functions within the domain.
  
• Maintain Technology Strategy and current/target state architectures.
  
• Collaborate across domains to ensure alignment and feasibility of technology proposals.
  
• Partner with Technology Domain Owners to maintain technology roadmaps.
  

Hands-On Solution Design & Implementation (50%)

• Drive full stack solution design using microservices, streaming, and event-driven architectures.
  
• Lead the creation of reusable software components, shared libraries, and frameworks.
  
• Collaborate with SMEs, delivery leads, and product owners to design scalable, integrated systems.
  
• Focus on reusability, scalability, maintainability, performance, and availability.
  
• Support solution architects with high-level and low-level designs and documentation.
  

Technical Leadership & Governance (25%)

• Ensure adherence to Architecture Standards and Enterprise Principles.
  
• Maintain comprehensive architecture documentation.
  
• Promote effective pattern utilization and mentor development teams.
  
• Participate in all cross-domain architecture routines and governance processes.
  

Requirements

Experience

• 12+ years in software engineering with a proven track record of delivering high-impact enterprise solutions.
  
• 8-10+ years as an Application, Solutions, or Domain Architect with cloud-native technologies (AWS preferred).
  
• Experience balancing strategic architecture planning and hands-on implementation.
  

Technical Expertise

• Deep knowledge of InfoSec and DevSecOps using AWS.
  
• Experience with application portfolio management and domain-driven design.
  
• Background in financial systems is preferred but not mandatory.
  
• Expertise in creating reusable software components and shared libraries using Java, Python, or JavaScript.
  

Leadership & Communication

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  
• Ability to communicate effectively with both executives and developers.
  
• Proven leadership and stakeholder management experience.
  

Certifications (Highly Desirable)

• AWS Solutions Architect - Professional or Associate
