We are seeking a Data Center / Technical Center Technician (L1) to provide hands-and-feet support for data center operations in Cincinnati, OH. This entry-level role focuses on physical infrastructure support, assisting remote engineering teams with incidents, service requests, and scheduled maintenance to ensure high availability and reliability of IT systems.
The ideal candidate will have basic knowledge of data center environments, strong attention to detail, and the ability to follow established procedures. This position is well-suited for candidates looking to build a strong foundation in data center operations and IT infrastructure support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide hands-and-feet support in data center and technical facilities under guidance from L2/L3 teams
- Install, remove, replace, and relocate servers, network devices, storage systems, racks, and cabling
- Support planned maintenance, upgrades, and hardware refresh activities
- Perform basic troubleshooting of hardware, connectivity, cabling, and power issues
- Execute structured cabling tasks including patching, labeling, and cable management
- Conduct routine visual inspections and equipment health checks (LEDs, fans, power status)
- Follow runbooks and procedures during incident response activities
- Update work status, notes, and resolutions in the ticketing system (ServiceNow or similar)
- Adhere to data center safety, security, and change management policies
- Assist with inventory management, asset tagging, and equipment tracking
- Escalate issues beyond L1 scope following defined escalation paths
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 1 3 years of experience or exposure to data center or IT infrastructure support
- Basic understanding of servers, racks, cabling, power, and networking components
- Experience following SOPs and technical documentation
- Familiarity with ticketing systems such as ServiceNow
- Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work in restricted access environments and follow security protocols
- Physically able to lift and move equipment (within safety guidelines)
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, or on-call rotations, as required
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Entry-level certifications: CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent
- Previous experience in a data center, NOC, or technical support role
- Basic knowledge of networking concepts (ports, patch panels, connectivity)
- Understanding of incident, problem, and change management processes
