Job Description
The Senior Software Development, Engineering, and Architect Technology serves as Northwell Health's expert for the design, implementation, and governance of new and evolving technologies within the Laboratory Information Services ecosystem. This role ensures that Northwell's Cerner Millennium (Oracle Health) PathNet environment-and its connected digital pathology, molecular/genomics, automation, and analytics platforms-are architected for high reliability, scalability, compliance, and alignment with Northwell's Epic conversion strategy and enterprise digital roadmap.

Job Responsibility
- Supports the design and architecture of various initiatives for Anatomic Pathology.
- Align Anatomic Pathology Digital Pathology growth initiatives with Cerner Millennium functionality
- Help drive and manage standardization, optimization, and enhancements of AP module leading to a streamlined operation
- Provide oversight and management of AB&T best practices
- Design Oracle new cloud based applications in conjunction with other Oracle clients
- Evaluate and introduce emerging capabilities-automated workflows, digital pathology case assignment, scanner connectivity, automation middleware, microservices/API models, and cloud-native tools-that strengthen Northwell's LIS ecosystem .
- Lead proof-of-concepts and partner with Northwell's Innovation Center, Clinical Informatics, and Enterprise Architecture to assess long-term value, scalability, and risk.
- Integrate new molecular and genomic technologies into the enterprise LIS architecture, ensuring alignment with Feinstein Institutes and Advanced Diagnostics.
- Support, maintain and enhance LIS architecture aligned with Cerner Millennium, Epic Beaker interoperability, and enterprise data strategy (OCI, VNA, and Health Information Exchange).
- Architect high-throughput integrations for ADT, provider, orders/results, microbiology, Anatomic Pathology, molecular/genomics workflows, and device connectivity across all Northwell hospitals and reference labs.
- Define patterns for reliability, failover, monitoring, capacity management, and performance tuning across production, and isolated test environments within Cerner Millennium PathNet
- Evaluate and introduce emerging capabilities-automated workflows, digital pathology case assignment, scanner connectivity, automation middleware, microservices/API models, and cloud-native tools-that strengthen Northwell's LIS ecosystem.
- Lead proof-of-concepts and partner with Northwell's Innovation Center, Clinical Informatics, and Enterprise Architecture to assess long-term value, scalability, and risk.
- Integrate new molecular and genomic technologies into the enterprise LIS architecture, ensuring alignment with Feinstein Institutes and Advanced Diagnostics.
- Engineer the dataflows between Cerner Lab, Epic, and downstream systems using HL7, FHIR, REST APIs, and Northwell interface engine architecture (Rhapsody/Ensemble).
- Ensure data quality, terminology consistency, order/result mapping, and code-set management across all Northwell clinical systems.
- Design patterns that support Epic go-live data volumes, high-throughput message processing, queue resilience, monitoring dashboards, and recovery procedures.
- Provide technical leadership during Cerner upgrades, Epic conversion cutover events, digital pathology rollouts, new lab site openings, and major workflow redesigns.
- Work closely with the Laboratory Services leadership and service line leadership to translate clinical and operational goals into IT architecture.
Job Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience, required.
HIGHLY PREFERRED
- 7-10+ years experience in healthcare IT, clinical informatics, laboratory IT, or enterprise architecture .
- Cerner Millennium Anatomic Pathology and PathNet advanced database knowledge
- Expert knowledge of Cerner Millennium/Oracle Health PathNet architecture (General Lab, Micro, AP).
- Strong experience in interface design (HL7, FHIR, REST, APIs), middleware, and high-volume message processing.
- Experience supporting large academic or system-level lab operations, including reference lab workflow, courier models, and systemwide result routing.
- Ability to communicate complex technical architecture to senior executives, lab leadership, physicians, and operational teams.
- Familiarity with Epic data flows (orders, results, ADT, provider, Specimen Tracking) strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of digital pathology ecosystems (Leica, Gestalt, VNA, storage/FlashBlade) and genomics pipelines.
- Experience with cloud architecture (OCI, AWS, or Azure).
- Strong grounding in CAP, CLIA, NY DOH, and HIPAA security principles.
