Essential Duties
1. Design, analyze, code, test, debug, document and maintain moderately complex enterprise systems; develop enhancements that enable a positive end-user experience. 2. Research, analyze, design, document, and modify software specifications throughout the production life cycle. 3. Create and implement project specifications/plans for projects with straightforward inter-dependency with other systems and/or projects. 4. Modify moderately complex application programs from detailed specifications. 5. Develop and validate test routines and schedules, evaluate code to ensure that it is valid, is properly structured, meets industry standards and is compatible with browsers, devices, or operating systems.

Position Focus:
Yale is seeking a dynamic, seasoned Software Engineer to serve on the Health Sciences IT (HSIT) Application Services team. The Application Services team creates and maintains custom applications and integrations built on low-code platforms like Salesforce, OutSystems, Claris FileMaker, Talend, Microsoft Power Automate, and others with various integrated internal and external services for the Yale School of Medicine, Yale School of Public Health, Yale School of Nursing and the Yale Health Plan.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in responsive application development, integration development, platform management, solution design, and database management (MS SQL, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL), with a particular emphasis on understanding and improving business processes through technology.
Reporting to the IT Manager the key responsibilities for this role include:
Application and Integration Development:
Develop and implement integrations using Talend or MS Power Automate.
Design, develop, test, and deploy applications on Salesforce and OutSystems platforms
Customize and enhance existing Salesforce and OutSystems applications to meet evolving business needs.
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements, providing technical solutions that align with business objectives.
Lead the migration of legacy FM applications to Salesforce or OutSystems, designing future state solutions that are efficient, scalable, and user-friendly
Platform Management:
Maintain and optimize Salesforce and OutSystems platforms to ensure performance, scalability, and security.
Monitor system health and troubleshoot issues, providing timely resolutions
Manage and execute platform upgrades, patches, and releases.
Implement best practices for code development, version control, and deployment in Salesforce and OutSystems.
Collaboration & Solution Design:
Work closely with business analysts, project managers, product owners, and other developers to deliver high-quality applications
Participate in workshops and discovery sessions to understand current state business processes supported by legacy applications
Analyze application functionality and recommend the most suitable platform (Salesforce or OutSystems) for each business need.
Develop and execute a comprehensive data migration strategy, ensuring data integrity and alignment with new platform capabilities.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members and stakeholders.
Documentation & Compliance:
Create and maintain technical documentation for all developed solutions.
Ensure that all developed applications comply with industry and university standards, policies, security protocols, and regulatory requirements
Maintain clear and thorough documentation of current state processes and future state solutions, providing transparency and clarity for all stakeholders.
Software Administration
Support the centralized software team with procurement and approval processes
Work with clients and vendors and support and ensure vendor software meets Yale's minimum-security standards and security assessments
Work with vendors and procurement to ensure all software contracts have the necessary data addendums and accessibility addendums as required
Technical Skills
Strong experience developing integrations using Talend
Strong understanding of Salesforce development (Apex, Visualforce, Lightning) and OutSystems development (Reactive Web, Mobile)
Proficient in programming languages such as JavaScript and HTML.
Solid understanding of database concepts, including SQL and data modeling
Familiarity with FileMaker (FM) systems and MS Access and processes is highly desirable
