Job Title - Network Specialist – CityNet Phase 3

Location: Various agency locations across the five boroughs of NYC
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 35 hours/week (Hybrid: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
Duration: 12+ Months

About the Role
Join a dynamic team as a Network Specialist supporting the implementation of advanced network technologies for major IT projects across New York City. You will play a key role in architecture design, planning, and hands-on deployment of network solutions in a large-scale, multi-agency environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy and configure network equipment at multiple NYC locations

  • Lead onsite migrations from legacy devices to new network infrastructure

  • Coordinate with various city agencies using ServiceNow for scheduling and technical cutovers

  • Upgrade network operating systems and implement advanced MPLS configurations

  • Maintain asset management in ServiceNow, including onboarding new devices and decommissioning legacy equipment

  • Update network documentation: remove unused configurations, subnets, and ports, and revise network diagrams

  • Develop and implement Cisco router/switch configuration templates

  • Conduct SNMP, syslog, NTP, and NetFlow testing

  • Participate in meetings, follow up on assigned tasks, and support additional networking, VoIP, or QoS initiatives as needed

Mandatory Qualifications

  • 12+ years of professional networking experience

  • Proven hands-on expertise with BGP, MPLS, and OSPF routing protocols in large-scale environments

  • Extensive experience with Cisco network installations in multi-ring, dark fiber environments

  • Deployment of Cisco NCS routers and IOS-XR, including deep knowledge of hardware limitations and feature sets

  • Proficiency in MPLS, EIGRP, OSPF, iBGP, eBGP, and IS-IS routing protocols

  • Experience configuring CORE/PE and CPE routers/switches in mid-to-large organizations or carriers

  • Strong background in enterprise QoS design and implementation, especially for Cisco NCS products

  • Advanced skills with management protocols (SNMPv3, Syslog, NetFlow)

  • Excellent analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to thrive in cross-functional teams with strong attention to detail

  • Experience reviewing project designs and system documentation

  • Proficiency in network architectural design using MS Visio

  • Familiarity with the City of New York’s network infrastructure and processes is a plus

Additional Information

  • Travel within NYC’s five boroughs is required; travel reimbursement is not provided

  • Onsite presence is mandatory for maintenance windows

  • Overtime must be pre-approved by the project manager
