Job Title: IP Facility Coder
Position Type: Full Time
Location: 100% Remote in Approved States (Approved States for Employment: Candidates must have their primary residence in one of the following states (dual U.S. residency is acceptable if primary residence is in an approved state): AK, AL, AR, AZ, FL, ID, KS, LA, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, NV, OK, SD, TX, UT, WY)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled IP Facility Coder to join our team. This is a 100% remote position, but candidates must reside in one of the approved states listed below. The ideal candidate will have experience in Inpatient Facility and DRG Coding and hold a valid AHIMA or AAPC certification. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to coding accuracy and compliance.
Primary Skills:
- Inpatient (IP) Coding
- Facility Coding
- Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) Coding
- Must be able to obtain a static IP for secure remote access.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Accurately code inpatient medical records using ICD-10-CM/PCS.
- Assign DRG codes in compliance with coding guidelines and regulations.
- Utilize online encoder references, Coding Clinic Guidelines, and facility-specific coding policies.
- Abstract medical records efficiently as part of the coding process.
- Maintain knowledge of DRG and APC payment methodologies.
- Assist and mentor Coder I professionals as needed.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and facility-specific requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Licenses and Certifications:
- Must hold one or more of the following credentials: CIC, COC, CPC, CPC-A, CCS-P, CCS, RHIT, or RHIA (AHIMA or AAPC certified)
- Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate s Degree preferred.
- AHIMA or AAPC certification required.
- Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 6 months of experience as a Coder I OR one year of exact coding experience at a previous facility.
- CPC-A candidates must have at least two years of coding experience.
- Special Skills or Training Requirements:
- Minimum typing speed of 35 characters per minute.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and coding standards.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Computer literacy with knowledge of billing processes preferred.
- Must strictly adhere to coding compliance standards wilful coding inaccuracies for reimbursement purposes may lead to disciplinary action, including termination.
