This is an unpaid fellowship through the Department of Defense (DoD) SkillBridge Program. The fellow selected for this role will not receive compensation or benefits from GDIT and will not be an employee, agent or contractor of GDIT but rather will remain an employee of the DoD and will receive compensation and benefits through the DoD.

Job Description:
Through the DoD SkillBridge Program, GDIT offers transitioning service members the opportunity to gain hands-on experience as a Cyber Security Support Specialist Fellow. In this Fellowship, you'll support U.S. Air Forces Europe and Africa in safeguarding critical information systems and ensuring the integrity of military networks and operations. You'll work directly with experienced cybersecurity professionals while building the skills needed for a successful transition into the civilian cybersecurity workforce.
As a Cyber Security Support Specialist Fellow, you will engage in comprehensive cybersecurity practices, including risk assessments, system audits, vulnerability management, and compliance support. You will assist in maintaining the security and integrity of networks and data, directly contributing to military and defense missions.

Job Description:

HOW A CYBER SECURITY SUPPORT SPECIALIST FELLOW WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
- Assist in defining and analyzing security requirements for critical systems to support protection against unauthorized access and system vulnerabilities.
- Support the System Assessment & Authorization (A&A) process by evaluating and guiding security tasks, ensuring compliance with DoD and DAF policies, and assisting with Authorization to Operate (ATO) package management.
- Conduct risk and vulnerability assessments on planned and installed information systems to identify security risks, potential threats, and protection needs.
- Recommend policies and procedures to support the reliability, accessibility, and security of systems, networks, and data.
- Perform security evaluations, audits, and reviews to ensure adherence to established cybersecurity policies and best practices.
- Assist in developing incident response plans, disaster recovery procedures, and business continuity strategies.
- Support security awareness programs for systems, network, and data users to ensure compliance with cybersecurity policies.
- Participate in network and system design discussions to observe and contribute to the integration of robust security measures.
- Assess security events and incidents under supervision and assist in implementing corrective actions.
- Observe and support Information System Security Officer (ISSO) duties in accordance with DoDI 8500.01, AFI 17-101, and related regulations, gaining hands-on experience without independently executing ISSO responsibilities.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Technology, Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field (Equivalent experience may be considered).
Required Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of experience, with at least 6 years in specialized roles related to defining computer security requirements, evaluating security product capabilities, and supporting security operations for high-level applications.
Technical Skills & Knowledge:
- Proficiency with Risk Management Framework (RMF) and eMASS or XACTA, including managing ATO packages and related artifacts.
- Knowledge of SNAP, GIAP, ACAS Vulnerability Scanner, STIG/SCAP tools, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Understanding of federal and DoD cybersecurity regulations and security standards.
Required Certifications:
- Proficiency with Risk Management Framework (RMF) and eMASS or XACTA, including managing ATO packages and related artifacts.
- Knowledge of SNAP, GIAP, ACAS Vulnerability Scanner, STIG/SCAP tools, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Understanding of federal and DoD cybersecurity regulations and security standards.
- DoDD 8570.01M IAT Level III certification (must obtain within 6 months of hire).
- Ability to obtain (ISC) CGRC - Certified in Governance, Risk, and Compliance certification within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Certifications:
- Additional certifications such as CISSP or CompTIA Security+
Additional Skills:
- Proficiency with network security principles, incident response, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity compliance frameworks within the DoD and federal environment.
- Ability to contribute to the development and implementation of security strategies to prevent unauthorized access and protect critical systems.

DoD SkillBridge Eligibility:
- Has served at least 180 days on active duty
- Can participate within the last 6 months of separation or retirement
- Will receive an honorable discharge
- Has taken any service TAP/TGPS
- Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
