Unpaid Academic Intern (Equity and Community Health-Academic Unpaid Internship)

CalOptima Health is seeking a highly motivated Unpaid Academic Intern (Equity and Community Health-Academic Unpaid Internship) to join our team. The overall purpose and objective of the Intern (Equity and Community Health) is to gain work experience in the field prior to graduating. This is an opportunity to utilize and apply the skills and knowledge learned in the classroom setting and apply it in the workforce. The incumbent will be primarily responsible for handling department assigned projects, given a moderate degree of independence. The incumbent will frequently meet with supervisors to go over the status and progress of assignments.
Under the general oversight of the Equity and Community Health department, the incumbent will assist with initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes and promoting equity in underserved communities. The incumbent will assist in various community health initiatives, including outreach, education, resource distribution and contributing to projects that address health disparities and support community-based health initiatives. Additionally, the incumbent will work closely with team members to identify key health equity issues, as well as collect and analyze data. The incumbent will assist in the development of community engagement strategies and assist in the design and implementation of programs and policies that promote equitable health access. Engagement with community partners and community members will take place at various locations throughout Orange County.

Duties & Responsibilities:
90% - Department Support Evidence-based Approaches to Public Health
Applies epidemiological methods to the breadth of settings and situations in public health practice.
Selects quantitative and qualitative data collection methods appropriate for a given public health context.
Analyzes quantitative and qualitative data using biostatistics, informatics, computer-based programming and software, as appropriate.
Interprets results of data analysis for public health research, policy or practice. Public Health & Health Care Systems
Compares the organization, structure and function of health care, public health and regulatory systems across national and international settings.
Discusses the means by which structural bias, social inequities and racism undermine health and create challenges to achieving health equity at organizational, community and societal levels. Planning & Management to Promote Health
Assesses population needs, assets and capacities that affect communities' health.
Applies awareness of cultural values and practices to the design or implementation of public health policies or programs.
Designs a population-based policy, program, project or intervention.
Explains basic principles and tools of budget and resource management.

Discusses multiple dimensions of the policy-making process, including the roles of ethics and evidence.
Proposes strategies to identify stakeholders and build coalitions and partnerships for influencing public health outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent PLUS enrollment in a college or university two- or four-year degree program, an accredited vocational institution or a graduate program required.
