Job Title: Database Administrator
Location: Boise, ID 83702 (Remote, with potential onsite for webcam/in-person interviews)
Duration: 12 Months | Contract
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator to lead a critical upgrade project from SQL Server 2017 to 2022 in a complex, on-premises virtualized infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in high availability (HA), clustering, and disaster recovery (DR) strategies within enterprise environments.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and execute the upgrade of SQL Server 2017 to 2022 in a VM-based environment (Hyper-V/VMware).
Maintain and troubleshoot Always On Availability Groups and Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC).
Collaborate with infrastructure teams on VM, storage, and networking configurations.
Support production and disaster recovery (DR) environments.
Perform performance tuning, capacity planning, and backup/restore operations.
Manage and configure SQL Server components: SSRS, SSIS, and Analysis Services.
Develop and maintain documentation, standards, and procedures.
Provide on-call support and knowledge transfer to internal teams.
Guide and coordinate work for other DBA contractors when required.
Required Qualifications
7+ years SQL Server DBA experience in enterprise environments.
Proven experience upgrading SQL Server 2017 2022 on virtualized infrastructure.
Strong background in HA/Clustering (Always On, WSFC).
Hands-on experience with Hyper-V or VMware.
Advanced proficiency in T-SQL and PowerShell scripting.
Expertise with Windows Server 2022 administration.
Skilled in SQL Server components: SSRS, SSIS, and Analysis Services.
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Microsoft DBA Certification (minimum 5 years).
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or equivalent.
Experience with VM backup/snapshot strategies and hybrid DR solutions.
Knowledge of SQL Server licensing strategies.
Hands-on experience with monitoring tools such as Redgate, SolarWinds, or Sentry One.
Familiarity with Active Directory and DNS configurations in HA/clustered SQL setups (CNOs, service account delegation, dynamic DNS updates).
