Application Developer

Job Summary
The Application Developer works with a team of other developers and I.T. professionals to create, support, and maintain software systems and projects for the agency and its customers. This position reports to the Development Team Lead, and under limited supervision, works with colleagues, clients, and customers to produce secure and efficient applications.
To be successful in this role a candidate must possess excellent customer service and communication skills. The candidate must be able to effectively solve problems with limited direction.
Job Responsibilities and Performance Standards
* Develops software and applications consistent with business needs and customer requirements
* Researches, designs, and implements software applications and systems
* Provides advance support, troubleshooting, and debugging for software and applications developed or supported internally
* Assists with application and system security by adopting and continually familiarizing themselves with software development best practices
* Collaborates with other I.T. staff to develop and improve I.T. and workflows and processes, including the creation and maintenance of supporting documentation.
* Develops and performs software testing
* Assists project managers and product owners with requirements gathering, design, and creation of user stories
* As assigned, directly assists or supports other I.T. projects and initiatives.
* Fosters innovation by continuing to familiarize themselves with new trends, technologies, and best practices relevant to their role.

Minimum Skills, Training, and Experience
* Experience working on a team using Agile or other iterative development methodologies
* Experience with Git / version control
* Proven ability to turn user stories into functional software
* Proven experience developing in an MVC framework
* Ability to demonstrate proficiency in two or more of the following (or similar) languages / technologies
o Python
o PHP
o Ruby on Rails
o Django
o JavaScript / HTML5 / CSS
* Strong problem-solving abilities
