Our client is building a modern and developer-friendly data security platform to automate data security and privacy at scale, from detection to remediation.
About the role
Our client is looking for an Applied NLP Scientist to play a critical role in the evolution of their data classification pipeline, which powers their data security and privacy platform. In this role, you will lead the development of NLP systems that operate on unstructured text and other data modalities, with a strong focus on Named Entity Recognition (NER) and data classification.
You will support and evolve their existing multilingual and English NER models while ensuring scalability, accuracy, and adaptability to new domains. This role involves maintaining multiple models for different data types, working with massive datasets, and building production-grade ML infrastructure that supports fast and reliable inference. This is a high-impact, in-office role based in NYC where you ll collaborate across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams.
What you ll do
- Own and evolve our client s data classification pipeline across multiple data modalities (e.g., unstructured text, documents, tables, images).
- Develop and maintain NER models, including English-specific and multilingual systems.
- Apply modern NLP techniques for structured information extraction, text classification, clustering, and summarization.
- Define and build processes for model evaluation, validation, and continuous monitoring.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to integrate ML models into customer-facing systems.
- Stay on top of research and best practices in applied NLP and contribute to the evolution of their ML architecture.
- 4+ years of experience in applied NLP.
- Demonstrated success building and deploying NER systems and working with unstructured text data in production.
- Experience working across the ML lifecycle: data preprocessing, model training, evaluation.
- Bachelor s, Master s, or PhD in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or related field or equivalent experience.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Must be based in New York City this is an in-office role Tuesday through Thursday.
