Job Details

The suspension system defines the ride and handling of the vehicle. It is core to the driving experience of a Tesla. We use ride height controls and corner level damping controls to influence the character of the car. We are looking for a software integration engineer for suspension software development, to lead the development of current and future suspension software, across all our current production roadmap from Model S and X to Semi to the Roadster.
As a software integration engineer, you will define the system and software requirements, prototype and evaluate software - both on a bench and in-vehicle, and lead the release of this software through rigorous validation. You will work directly with hardware, vehicle dynamics, and electrical systems teams to shape the suspension roadmap. An integration engineer is a generalist position where you will contribute across various aspects like writing code, physics modeling, controls, in-vehicle debugging, and program management. You will also support manufacturing readiness for new suspension introductions and support service for fleet issue diagnostics.
If you are excited about working at the intersection of software, electronics, and mechanics, then this is the role for you. Come join an industry-leading team that solves challenging problems that span safety-critical software, embedded systems, motor controls, electronic actuation, and vehicle dynamics. Help us accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy by shaping the driving experience of our electric vehicles.

Responsibilities
  • Lead architecture design decisions spanning software, hardware, electronics, manufacturing, and service
  • Arrive at sensor, actuator, and compute perform requirements
  • Bring up software to evaluate various prototype hardware and PCBAs
  • Develop frameworks and tests to evaluate actuator performance
  • Perform system safety analyses like FMEAs and FTAs to derive safety requirements
  • Work with test engineers to design validation and rollout strategies
  • Own the sign-off for production software sent over-the-air update to customer vehicles
  • Travel to suppliers around the world to evaluate teams, technologies, work on program roadmaps, and unblock hot topics for development

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar areas of study, or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in C, familiarity with MISRA C and Python are a plus
  • Knowledge of microcontroller peripherals such as ADC, GPIO, PWM and SPI
  • Experience with reading electrical schematics and understanding circuit behavior
  • Experience working with sensors and digital signal processing
  • Familiarity with control loops and PID controllers
  • Familiarity with field-oriented motor control and permanent magnet motors a plus
  • Knowledge of version control (Git) and continuous integration strategies are a plus
  • Prior experience with vehicle physics, real-time embedded software development, or electromechanical actuation is preferred
