Engagement Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Tableau Data Integration Automation Consultant to streamline and automate the Tableau Online dashboard data processes. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Tableau, data integration, automation, and scripting to design, implement, and maintain automated workflows that pull data from multiple sources into Tableau Online, reducing manual intervention and improving data freshness and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
Phase 1 Discovery and Evaluation:
- Conduct interviews with the OIT/BI team to understand existing workflows, pain points, and requirements.
- Review current Tableau Online workbooks, data sources, extracts, and SharePoint integrations.
- Map all data sources (up to 40, including SharePoint and other specified systems) and their formats.
- Identify potential automation tools and technologies (e.g., Tableau Prep, Tableau APIs, Python scripts, Power Automate).
- Deliver a comprehensive evaluation report with gap analysis and recommendations for workflow optimization.
Phase 2 Design and Planning:
- Design automated data pipelines and architecture for pulling data from multiple sources directly into Tableau Online.
- Propose integration strategies (live connections, extracts, hybrid approaches) and define scheduling for daily refreshes.
- Outline required infrastructure changes, including API endpoints, database permissions, and automation tools.
- Develop a proof-of-concept (PoC) for critical data sources to validate the automation approach.
- Collaborate with CCC OIT/BI team to prioritize sources and define success metrics (e.g., reduction in manual effort, dashboard refresh time).
Phase 3 Implementation and Testing:
- Build and deploy automated data pipelines for all identified sources.
- Configure Tableau Online for scheduled refreshes, notifications, and error handling.
- Implement data validation, logging, and alerting mechanisms to ensure data integrity.
- Conduct thorough end-to-end testing to ensure seamless dashboard updates.
Phase 4 Deployment, Training, and Handover:
- Deploy the solution into the production environment with minimal downtime.
- Provide hands-on training sessions and comprehensive documentation for CCC OIT/BI team.
- Deliver final handover report including architecture diagrams, performance metrics, and maintenance procedures.
- Provide 2 weeks post-deployment support for troubleshooting and adjustments.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in Tableau and Tableau Online, including Tableau Prep.
- Strong experience with data integration, automation, and scripting (Python, Tableau APIs, PowerShell, Power Automate).
- Experience connecting Tableau to multiple data sources, including SharePoint, PeopleSoft, Salesforce, and other enterprise systems.
- Knowledge of scheduling, logging, and monitoring automated workflows.
- Strong problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with internal IT and BI teams.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with cloud-based data sources and APIs.
- Knowledge of data governance, security best practices, and compliance standards.
- Familiarity with CCC systems such as OpenBook, Oracle Service Cloud, BetterUptime, Agiloft, Marketing Cloud, Pardot, and WordPress.
