Description
Storage Infrastructure Engineer: The Storage Infrastructure Engineer will possess technical expertise and engineering skills and is considered a leading subject matter expert for designing technical infrastructure solutions involving, Storage Hardware, Hypervisors, Storage Area Network, Network-attaching Storage, and Cloud solutions, with general knowledge of Servers and Networking. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring high availability, performance, security and compliance of storage systems including active involvement in Business continuity and Disaster Recovery planning and testing Overview: The Storage and Backup Infrastructure Support Engineer is responsible for delivering advanced Tier 2 support for the organization's storage and backup environments. This role is focused on ensuring the reliability, security, and optimal performance of critical storage and backup systems by proactively monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving complex technical issues. The engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to minimize service interruptions and maintain high data availability and integrity. Key responsibilities include managing and optimizing enterprise storage arrays, backup solutions, and related infrastructure, as well as implementing best practices for data protection and disaster recovery. By maintaining and enhancing the storage and backup landscape, the Storage and Backup Infrastructure Support Engineer plays an essential role in supporting business continuity and safeguarding organizational data assets. Responsibilities: Implement and manage storage solutions. Design, deploy, and maintain Storage Area Network (SAN), Network-Attached Storage (NAS), and cloud storage environments to meet company needs. Monitor performance and capacity. Track storage system performance and utilization to identify bottlenecks and forecast future capacity needs. Implement performance tuning to optimize efficiency. Administer storage arrays. Configure and manage large-scale storage arrays, including tasks like zoning, LUN provisioning, and volume management. Troubleshoot storage issues. Diagnose and resolve complex storage-related problems, including connectivity issues, performance degradation, and data integrity errors. Perform routine maintenance. Conduct system maintenance, upgrades, and patching for storage hardware, operating systems, and related software. Decommission hardware. Handle the lifecycle of storage equipment, including decommissioning old hardware and re-purposing existing resources. Manage backup and recovery systems. Administer enterprise backup software, like Veritas NetBackup, including scheduling and maintaining backup jobs. Ensure data integrity. Implement and enforce data protection and retention policies to meet compliance regulations. Restore data. Conduct data recovery operations and perform routine restore tests to validate the integrity of backups. Troubleshoot backup failures. Investigate and resolve failed backup jobs or performance issues. Handle escalations. Act as a point of escalation for complex issues that Tier 1 support cannot resolve. What are we looking for? Requirements: 5-7 years of experience in storage and backup engineering or administration is necessary. 5-7 years of experience with modern storage solutions like NetApp, Dell, Pure, and cloud storage technologies. 5-7 years of hands-on expertise with enterprise backup software such as Veeam, Commvault, or Veritas NetBackup, including data recovery and disaster recovery processes. 3-5 years experience in virtualization platforms like VMware vSphere or other hypervisors. 5-7 years of experience with storage protocols, including Fibre Channel, NFS, SMB/CIFS, S3, and iSCSI 5-7 years of experience with automation tools and scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python to streamline tasks and troubleshoot complex issues. 5-7 years of experience with system administration for Windows and Linux/Unix environments 5-7 years of experience with ticketing systems: Familiarity with help desk or ticketing software, such as Zendesk or JIRA, for tracking and managing technical cases. Preferences: Able to make quick decisions and resolve complex technical problems Ability to manage through shift changes and effectively transition open and unresolved issues. Ability to adapt, learn new technologies, develop new processes, and improve procedures. Excellent documentation skills. Ability to write, read, interpret, and edit complex documents and correspondence with team members and stakeholders. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work peak, off-peak, weekend, and holiday shifts. Ability to communicate and respond effectively with clients, associates, and stakeholders. Ability to perform problem-solving, use logic, and creative thought processes to resolve complex technical problems.
