Apple's Data Collection System team develops prototype hardware systems that lead to features across Apple product lines. We are seeking a Systems Architect to build high performance systems supporting computer vision, machine learning, and photography applications that break ground in technology and user experience.This hands-on role offers an opportunity to lead teams in exciting projects, work with and learn from world-class experts in different fields, and contribute to exciting applications of custom machine vision, depth, and traditional imaging sensors.

Experienced, dedicated engineer with initiative and a proven track record of developing sophisticated systems from definition through the project life cycleGreat teammate with outstanding and written communication, negotiation, and presentation skillsTechnical leader able to bridge and coordinate broadly multi-functional teamsAbility to quickly pick up and own new concepts and to contribute with innovative solutionsComfort working through ambiguityDeep understanding of system-level impact of design choices and good judgment in negotiating tradeoffsThorough guaranteed-by-design methodology for robust system design with good documentation habitsStrong hands-on solving and analytical skillsPrefer:Proven record of leading sophisticated system designs and coordinating design teams including close collaboration with Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware and Software Engineering teamsExperience integrating cameras into system electronic and mechanical architecture, with an understanding of optics/sensor/image pipeline preferredScripting skills and understanding of low level software (firmware & drivers in C or C++) a strong plusFamiliarity with training data requirements for machine learning, machine vision, computer vision, or deep learning a plus

Description

Job responsibilities include requirements definition, architecture, coordinating multi-functional design & development, small- to medium-scale production, test & calibration, and support through the full system lifecycle.- Collaborate with computer vision algorithm teams as well as system & module teams to interpret and negotiate system hardware requirements- Propose and negotiate system architecture that can be cross-functionally supported in the timeframes vital to meet program objectives- Perform system analysis, scoping, and resourcing & technical tradeoff evaluations- Coordinate cross-functional deliverables & dependencies to align with dynamic project goals- Collaborate with cross-functional teams-including electrical, optical, mechanical, firmware, driver, and other software teams-on hardware design and processes and to enable coordinated software development- Define and build proof-of-concept and initial prototype hardware as needed- Coordinate and assist in bring-up, debug, production, test, calibration, and verification plans to ensure high quality results are delivered- Thoroughly document and support each of above steps- Deliver executive-level presentations of proposals, status, and decisions

Education & Experience

MS with 5+ years or BS with 7+ years of relevant proven experience

Pay & Benefits

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $189,800.00 and $284,900.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
