Mainframe PL/1 Consultant

Title: Mainframe Consultant

Location: Remote

Duration: 02-03 Months

OVERVIEW:

This position will support the completion of an ongoing IT Mainframe migration project. The migration team is in need of an experienced individual with Extensive PL/1 software knowledge. Someone who can navigate their way around complex code, learn what the algorithms are doing and be able to document/explain the logic to another developer who will be rewriting the software for a Linux environment. This short-term contract can either be full or part-time with preferred location in the Eastern time zone.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• Read, interpret, and document existing JCL, Pl/1, and Cobol programs.
• Provide a non-Mainframe development team with the functionality and business logic from the Mainframe side to be rewritten with modern technology. i.e., Python scripting and Oracle database.
• Be part of the team to migrate an internal IT system and its dataflows to a Linux environment.
• Act as a sole technical Mainframe resource for our development team.

WHAT YOU LL BRING:

• Mainframe technology Extensive PL1 skillset and experience required. Must have COBOL, JCL, SYNCSORT, TSO, SPF, VSAM, FTP (An all-around experienced Mainframe application developer)
• Knowledge of Microfocus Mainframe Emulator software, Enterprise Server, Enterprise Developer is a plus.

• Capable of navigating around Mainframe user ids locating source code, copy books, and datasets etc. used within the software. (Source code management system was not implemented for organization.)
• Experience using Linux.
• Ability to discern key aspects of a problem and address them. (Critical analysis and Problem solving.)
• University/College degree within a related discipline or equivalent work experience.
