**This position has a hybrid work schedule with three days/week working in the office in downtown Richmond, VA.

The Information Security division in the Department of Accounts (DOA) is seeking a qualified individual for an Information Security Specialist position. This position requires in-person work at the office in Richmond, VA.

DOA's mission is to provide a uniform system of accounting, financial reporting, and internal control adequate to protect and account for the Commonwealth's financial resources, while supporting and enhancing the recognition of Virginia as the best managed state in the union.

Job Duties

The primary goal of this position is to enhance the organization's security posture by proactively identifying, mitigating, and responding to potential cyber threats. This position plays a key role in protecting sensitive data, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining customer trust through effective cybersecurity practices. This role supports the organization's broader objective of maintaining a robust and resilient IT infrastructure.
Assists the Information Security Officer with oversight and compliance of information and technology security as per the Commonwealth of Virginia's Security Policies, Standards, and Guidelines.
This position is responsible for monitoring and analyzing security events, performing vulnerability assessments, and supporting incident response activities. The position provides foundational cybersecurity knowledge to safeguard the organization's systems, networks, and data against unauthorized access, breaches, and other security risks. Additionally, this role supports the organization's risk management program by identifying, evaluating, and mitigating security risks.
Assists with planning, implementing, upgrading, and monitoring security measures for the protection of computer networks and information. Helps ensure appropriate security controls are in place that will safeguard digital files and vital electronic infrastructure. Supports the agency response to computer security breaches and viruses.

Minimum Qualifications

Educational knowledge of server, networking, and security concepts..
General skills developing security and risk management policies and documentation, incident handling processes, and delivering a security awareness program.
Experience using security monitoring tools and security baselining tools. Proficient with Microsoft Office.
Ability to communicate information security-related concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical staff.

Additional Considerations

Relevant coursework or professional experience in cybersecurity, network security, network security, information assurance, risk assurance and compliance, or a related field.
Relevant professional certifications considered.
