Job Details
Title: Tech Lead Developer Mainframe
Location: New York, NY
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of Mainframe-based applications.
- Convert business/functional requirements into detailed technical specifications.
- Perform hands-on coding, debugging (both batch and online), and performance tuning.
- Provide guidance to junior developers and perform code reviews.
- Interface with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment on technical delivery.
- Collaborate using Agile/Scrum methodologies and enterprise tools (JIRA, Confluence, ServiceNow, etc.).
- Serve as a customer-facing technical resource for issue resolution and project progress.
Must-Have Technical Skills:
- Mainframe Technologies:
- COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, DB2
- TSO, ISPF, SDSF, File-Aid, SPUFI, QMF
- Xpeditor, IBM Debug tools
- Version control systems (Endevor, Changeman, etc.)
- Strong experience in debugging complex batch and online jobs.
- Solid experience with writing and optimizing SQL in DB2.
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical designs and documentation.
Project Tools & Methodologies:
- JIRA
- ServiceNow or Remedy
- Confluence
- QMetry (test management)
- SharePoint
- Agile/Scrum project delivery
- Familiarity with tools such as ViewBill or similar billing/reporting platforms
Soft Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 7 years of hands-on development experience in a Mainframe environment
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Prior customer-facing experience is highly preferred
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and lead small teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in utilities, banking, or large-scale enterprise environments
- Exposure to DevOps pipelines and automated deployment strategies on mainframe systems
