Job Title: Data Migration Specialist MongoDB SME
Remote
Type: W2
Duration: 6+ Months Contract
Job Overview:
We are seeking a MongoDB Subject Matter Expert (SME) specializing in data migration to lead the planning, design, and execution of large-scale data migration projects. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in migrating complex datasets from legacy systems to MongoDB and be adept at ensuring data integrity, security, and performance throughout the process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end data migration process from legacy databases (SQL, NoSQL, or flat files) to MongoDB.
- Design and implement data migration strategies that ensure data integrity, consistency, and minimal downtime.
- Analyze source data, map data models, and transform data to fit MongoDB document structures.
- Develop and optimize ETL pipelines using tools like Apache NiFi, Talend, or custom Python scripts.
- Collaborate with application teams, DBAs, and architects to understand requirements and ensure smooth transitions.
- Write scripts and utilities for data transformation, validation, and clean-up using Python, JavaScript, or shell scripting.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data quality issues, performance bottlenecks, and technical roadblocks.
- Provide expert-level MongoDB support including schema design, indexing, aggregation, and replication/sharding strategies.
- Document migration plans, test cases, data models, and post-migration validation results.
Required Skills:
- 7+ years of experience in database management and data migration.
- 3+ years of hands-on expertise with MongoDB, including performance tuning, schema design, and data modeling.
- Strong experience in ETL processes, data mapping, and transformation logic.
- Proficient in Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
- Solid understanding of JSON, BSON, and document-oriented database structures.
- Familiarity with legacy database platforms like Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
- Experience with data validation, error handling, and rollback mechanisms.
- Knowledge of MongoDB Atlas, MongoDB Ops Manager, or similar platforms is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MongoDB Certified DBA or Developer.
- Experience in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and cloud-based migration.
- Familiarity with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
