JOB DETAILS:
Test Engineer (Electrical/Software)
Houston, TX
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Test Engineer with an electrical/software background to design and implement automated test systems for medical device development and verification. This is not a technician or manual tester role-this is a hands-on engineering position where you will architect test solutions, select instrumentation, and write the software to drive automated data collection and analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop automated test systems and test plans for medical devices-focusing on electrical and software integration.
- Program bench-top instrumentation (e.g., oscilloscopes, power supplies, DMMs, signal generators) to perform automated measurements and data logging.
- Architect and implement test frameworks in Python, LabVIEW, or C++ to control instruments, run sequences, and analyze results.
- Evaluate test requirements and determine the appropriate instrumentation and control strategy for each measurement.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to define test requirements and align test coverage with system specifications.
- Develop and maintain test documentation, including test plans, procedures, and automated scripts.
- Ensure traceability and consistency across test code and hardware configurations in a regulated, traceable environment (e.g., FDA/GMP).
- Participate in test reviews and investigations, providing clear and logical analysis of test data and system behavior.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience designing and implementing automated test systems in a product development or R&D environment.
- Hands-on experience programming instruments in one or more of the following: Python, LabVIEW, or C++.
- Demonstrated experience with instrument control (e.g., SCPI, VISA, GPIB, USB, Ethernet) and data acquisition.
- Strong understanding of measurement theory, noise, grounding, and signal integrity.
- Ability to design a test plan, define test coverage, and write software to support repeatable and automated validation.
- Comfortable working in a lab environment, interacting with physical hardware and test benches.
