Cyber Security Specialist
Location: Onsite at 11 MetroTech Center, Brooklyn, NY
Work Schedule: Monday Friday | 9:00 AM 5:00 PM | (35 hours per week only)
Employment Type: 12 Month Contract

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Cyber Security Specialist to support the Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911) project for the NYPD. This position focuses on upgrading and securing the emergency call handling systems for Class 1/2/3 and Call Handling initiatives. The specialist will ensure compliance with CJIS standards, develop next-generation security architectures, and lead the deployment of enterprise security solutions for critical public safety infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with CJIS, NIST 800-53, and agency-specific cybersecurity policies.
  • Design and implement Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) architecture and configuration standards.
  • Provide leadership and technical direction for enterprise security frameworks, controls, and best practices.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of advanced security solutions including NGFW, DNS/DNSSEC, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and data loss prevention (DLP).
  • Manage the Security Solutioning & Bill of Materials (BOM) process from intake through implementation.
  • Evaluate, test, and recommend new security hardware or software solutions while assessing their impact on existing infrastructure.
  • Provide technical expertise for the deployment and maintenance of cybersecurity tools and solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to refine incident response and forensic readiness processes.

Mandatory Qualifications
  • Minimum 12 years of professional experience in cybersecurity, network security, or related IT security domains.
  • Bachelor s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or equivalent field.
  • Proven ability to implement cybersecurity and privacy principles across complex environments.
  • Experience developing incident response procedures and coordinating response activities.
  • Deep understanding of network security architecture concepts, protocols, topologies, and defense-in-depth principles.
  • Hands-on experience analyzing system/application vulnerabilities and applying mitigating controls.
  • Strong expertise in documenting and assessing NIST 800-53 and CJIS controls.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building and securing cloud and hybrid infrastructures aligned with government standards.
  • Familiarity with DDoS mitigation tools (e.g., NetScout Arbor, Fortinet FortiGate).
  • Knowledge of malware analysis tools (e.g., IDA Pro, OllyDbg) and virtual machine detection techniques.
  • Proficiency with vulnerability assessment tools and documenting risks with remediation steps.
  • Experience directing incident response for interagency or mission-critical operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity legal and regulatory frameworks (Titles 10, 18, 32, and 50 U.S. Code).
  • Valid CISSP certification required.
  • Strong communication and technical documentation skills with proven experience presenting findings to senior leadership.
