What you'll do
As a member of our Data Platform team, you'll help build infrastructure and tools for collecting and processing data in streaming and batch pipelines. Your work will support access to data for various use-cases, including real-time stream processing, online data access, analytic data exploration, or extensive data processing. Our mission is to enable our community of data scientists, analysts, and developers to derive faster insights and reduce TTM in order to fuel Viasat growth.
The day-to-day
In this Software Engineer role, you will own core components of data ingestion and integration processing that intakes ~4 billon events per hour with data volume in excess of 30TB per day. You will design and implement new features and enhancements to our data platform to advance component architecture towards strategic data governance/management objectives while providing ongoing support, monitoring, and maintenance of deployed products. Additionally, you will monitor emerging technologies/technology practices for potential use within the Company.

Salary range
$135,500.00 - $214,000.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $168,500.00- $252,500.00/ annually

Additionally, you will monitor emerging technologies/technology practices for potential use within the Company.
What you'll need
- 5+ years proven software development experience using at least two of the following: Java, Scala, Python, C or C++.
- Familiarity with RDBMS technologies (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, etc.)
- Experience in Linux based systems, docker, and code versioning tooling (Git/CI/CD).
- Familiarity with at least one cloud provider such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure.
- Experience in design and implementation of robust and highly scalable Data services

- Proven great teammate with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously in a fast-paced dynamic agile work environment.
- BS or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics or related field
- Ability to travel up to 10%
- Strong analytical abilities
What will help you on the job
- Understanding of distributed and parallel computing architectures
- Proficiency in data handling and Streaming technologies including Kafka and Spark
- Expertise in Scala and/or Java
- Working experience in design, development, and implementation of highly scalable software systems and components, client-facing web applications and systems as a full stack developer using one of the following: Java, Python, or Scala
