About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Computer Systems Engineer Senior in our Criminal Justice Information Services Division (CJIS) at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will ensure the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) system provides maximum efficiency and availability; participate in the design and implementation of telecommunication networks for the Department that impact VCIN; develop requirements, identifies hardware, software, and telecommunications needs specific to VCIN; identify, diagnose, and correct system problems specific to VCIN; serve as technical liaison to users, vendors, and technical staff to provide for user needs, system enhancements, problem resolution, and integrity of VCIN; ensure the Hot Files system provides maximum efficiency and availability; identify hardware, software and telecommunications needs; identify diagnose and correct system problems; and provides technical support to users and staff to on user needs, enhancements, problem resolution and systems integrity. Monitors VCIN, National Crime Information Center (NCIC), National Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems (Nlets), Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and all remote law enforcement connections and maintains software.

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of hardware and telecommunications systems management, Virtual Private Networks (VPN), and systems software; of application strategies, practices, technologies, technical compatibly and integrations, and systems; and of file system concepts and utilization of databases.
Skill in the operation of computers, associated software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment; and in analytic and problem-solving skills to develop sound, well-reasoned decisions, conclusions, and recommendations.
Demonstrated ability to develop requirements, identifies hardware, software, and telecommunications needs; to serve as technical liaison to users, vendors, and technical staff to provide for user needs, system enhancements, problem resolution, and integrity; to establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures; to troubleshoot hardware/software problems; to present information, proposals, and recommendations; to provide training and technical consultation services; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, Agency management, contractors, government agencies, law enforcement, legal representatives, system users, vendors, and others, and successfully interact effectively in a team environment; and to multitask, and provide support in a 24/7 high-pressure work environment.
Experience with server hardware and operating systems required.
Experience working with databases to develop and implement technical solutions required.
Experience in software applications or other technical environments involving communication with all levels of technical and non-technical internal and external users, information technology staff, and management is required. Valid driver's license required.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
