Job Summary:
The Mainframe Systems Programmer Hardware Run is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise mainframe hardware environments. This role focuses on proactive hardware maintenance, rapid incident resolution, and configuration management to ensure high availability and performance across multiple client environments. The position plays a critical role in service continuity, disaster recovery readiness, and technical consulting within a shared, leveraged support model.
Key Responsibilities:
Proactively maintain mainframe hardware at current and supported microcode levels.
Support new client transitions and migrations involving mainframe hardware platforms.
Perform IOGEN and other hardware configuration activities.
Configure and manage processor, storage, DASD, and tape subsystems, including model conversions and MSU updates.
Perform DASD and tape replication using multiple technologies.
Troubleshoot and resolve major hardware-related system issues, including Sev1 and Sev2 incidents.
Escalate issues to vendors and coordinate service restoration and root cause analysis.
Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution activities.
Create tools, processes, documentation, and automation to improve team productivity and efficiency.
Perform ITIL-based change management activities, including ticket creation, change implementation, and closure.
Provide 24x7 on-call support for service restoration and problem resolution.
Work closely with internal teams, accounts, and clients to provide technical consulting as needed.
Mentor team members and provide technical guidance when required.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in mainframe systems programming or hardware support.
Demonstrated experience supporting enterprise-scale mainframe environments.
Special Requirements:
Availability to participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
Ability to support multiple client environments in a leveraged support model.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of mainframe hardware environments, including processors, DASD, and tape systems.
Experience with Hardware Management Consoles and hardware configuration tools.
Strong knowledge of HCD, IODF, IOCP, and IOCDS.
Experience working with vendors to diagnose, track, and resolve hardware issues.
Knowledge of disk and tape architecture and performance analysis.
Experience with IBM Copy Services Manager.
Working knowledge of VTAM and TCP/IP concepts.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to document procedures and develop standard operating practices.
