We are seeking a Chief of Space to join our Space Based Infrared Systems (SBIRS) Contractor Logistics Support (CLS) team. We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced satellite systems engineer to contribute to the success of a very challenging and rewarding mission. Key Duties and Responsibilities
Provide real-time support for 24/7 operations engineers who identify and troubleshoot spacecraft issues with deployed systems, provide anomaly response and resolution support, support root-cause investigations, perform subsystem analysis
Coordinate with the Factory Operations Support Team on current and future vehicle issues, capabilities, anomaly recoveries
Develop an in-depth understanding of system requirements and works directly with other chief engineers, developers, operational users, customers, and management to translate requirements into operational capabilities and processes that enable efficient conduct of program requirements
Provide daily technical direction and leadership to CLS team, specifically the Mission Payload Engineer, Mission Management Engineers, Orbital Analysts, and Satellite Systems Engineers supporting both ITWAA operations and concurrent LEOT activities. Guide prioritization and execution of activities, actively monitoring and maintaining awareness of all events, activities, and systems
Communicate consistently with Customers - providing technical explanations, impact assessments, and answering questions
Work closely with the SBIRS CLS Ground Chief Engineer for joint Space and Ground issues/recoveries
Lead the team through ground anomaly resolution
Rotating ground anomaly on-call
Support authoring, adjudicating, and resolving Problem Reports (PRs) and Discrepancy Reports (DRs)
Support planning for hardware/software baseline content and installation execution
Ensure the CLS team, including the overseas Remote Ground Sites personnel, are trained and prepared to support LEOT activities, as well as support concurrent ITWAA operations.
Interface with host organization and is required to be knowledgeable of the host system, networks, and maintenance processes.
Responsible to the LEOT Operations Management Team keeping them informed on system status and provide recommendations to resolve complex system issues as required during the LEOT campaigns.
Attend various Technical Interchange Meetings to help plan and integrate hardware and software changes into the baseline, and to ensure the LEOT baseline is protected during launch freeze periods.
Provide schedule coordination inputs
Provide impact assessments and feedback for BOEs, proposals, and future systems/updates
Provide expertise in future team planning
Provide technical mentorship to members of the CLS Team
Basic Qualifications
Active Secret DoD with the ability to obtain a DoD TS/SCI
Demonstrated Full Spectrum Leadership experience with diverse teams
Outstanding communications skills - Listening, verbal/non-verbal and written communications; ability to translate complex technical concepts/topics to personnel that are less knowledgeable and familiar with baseline system operations
Must be comfortable briefing senior contract and government officials on highly technical engineering procedures and concepts
Ability to adapt, teach, mentor and guide team
Experience working hand-in-hand with an on-site customer.
Experience solving complex ground system issues and teaming with multiple partners to troubleshoot and solve problems
Self-motivated and able to work under minimal supervision with the ability to function effectively in a rapidly changing environment
Desired skills
Active TS/SCI DoD Clearance
Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical degree.
Operational experience with the HEO, GEO and DSP constellations.
Skill in effectively responding to high-stress, real-time situations, and be able to properly prioritize, status, and work multiple tasks.
Experience supporting Launch Operations
Certification in a program discipline
Recognized as an expert in vehicle engineering and vehicle engineering concepts
Experience with 24x7 operations support, to include recall of key personnel
Experience with spacecraft/ground anomaly response/resolution
Experience utilizing a breadth of software platforms/languages: Python, PERL, Linux, AWS, etc.
Previous experience with a customer base on a program for complex systems, software development, and issue resolution
Ability to multi-task, especially to perform multiple assignments while meeting competing deadlines
Enjoys working in a team environment and collaborating with people in different functions
