Project Overview
We are seeking an experienced Hyper-V/Windows Failover Clustering (WFC) Systems Engineer or Technical Trainer for a highly focused, short-term contract (35 hours total estimated effort). The goal is to develop and deliver an advanced, customized training curriculum to our in-house Server/Systems Engineers to ensure they can successfully run, manage, maintain, and troubleshoot a newly deployed Hyper-V virtual environment.
Target Start Date: Training sessions to commence the week of January 5th.
Scope of Work (Key Focus Areas)
The successful candidate will focus exclusively on the operational and management aspects of the existing Hyper-V environment, including:
  • SCVMM Daily Operations: Hands-on training on VM lifecycle management, template deployment, and monitoring using System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM).
  • Cluster Management: Advanced administration and maintenance of Windows Failover Clusters (WFC) and Cluster Shared Volumes (CSVs).
  • PowerShell Scripting: Operational scripting, automation, and management of Hyper-V hosts and VMs.
  • Linux VM Management: Routine operations, updates, and specialized troubleshooting for Linux guests (comprising $\approx$ 75% of the overall workload).
  • Steady-State Maintenance: Patching, health checks, performance monitoring, and capacity scaling.
  • Advanced Troubleshooting: Diagnostics covering Hyper-V hosts, virtual switches, storage paths, and High Availability (HA) issues.
Deliverables
The consultant is required to provide the following materials and services:
  1. Customized Training Deck and Lab Manual: Electronic format training materials tailored to the client's environment.
  2. Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Document: A detailed document covering routine administration, maintenance schedules, and Tier 3 support procedures for the Hyper-V environment.
  3. Completion of all scheduled Remote Training Sessions: Delivery of the instructor-led, remote training (approximately one week equivalent content, delivered as mutually scheduled).
  4. Training Completion Report: A summary of content covered and any outstanding operational recommendations.
Required Experience & Skills
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design, administration, and troubleshooting of Microsoft Hyper-V and Windows Server environments.
  • Demonstrable expertise with Windows Failover Clustering (WFC) and Cluster Shared Volumes (CSVs).
  • Expert-level proficiency in PowerShell for Hyper-V automation and management.
  • Strong practical experience with Linux OS management, particularly as a guest OS within a Hyper-V environment.
  • Prior experience in developing and delivering customized technical training to IT professionals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
