Description

SAIC is looking for a Structural Mod Engineering Technician in Oak Harbor, WA to support the U.S. Navy.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Work pertains to electrical, electronic, or mechanical components or equipment. This position performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently.

Completed work is reviewed for technical adequacy and satisfaction of requirements. This position may train or be assisted by lower-level technicians and perform one or a combination of the following:
  • Fabricate, install, test, troubleshoot, modify, and repair various wire harnesses on ground and airframe applications.
  • Conduct various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data.
  • Design, develop, and construct major units, devices, or equipment; conducts tests or experiments; analyzes results and redesigns or modifies equipment to improve performance; and reports results.
  • Following specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
  • Review drawings and specifications provided to identify modification and repair issues and special tooling requirements.
  • Make recommendations to engineering and project management concerning formability of materials.
  • Review drawings and recommends design changes to improve productivity and reduce cost.
  • Repair, manufacture, and upgrade various avionics cable harnesses.
  • Perform repairs based on drawings and NAVAIR requirements.
  • Perform RF testing using a PNA, continuity testing using a DITMCO, DVM, and fiber optic testing using handheld light source and power meters and performs 1553 buss testing using semi-automated test equipment.
  • Use various encapsulation and coating materials such as conformal coatings, RTV's, epoxy resins, and paints.
  • Install electrical cables, connectors, and assemblies as well as mechanical components of various complexities requiring a high level of manual dexterity.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS
  • HS/GED and five (5) years related experience; OR Associates and four (4) years related experience.
  • Interim secret clearance required to start with the ability to obtain a secret clearance. SAIC will sponsor the clearance process.
  • Must possess a practical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, electronic principles, techniques, etc.
  • Must have technical knowledge of testing, modification, fabrication, installation, set-up of specialized equipment and documentation requirements for the establishment of repair, refurbishment and engineering support.
  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and sketches.
  • Must be able to adapt shop practices and industry standards to fit situations in absence of guidelines.
  • Must be able to use common hand tools for removal and replacement of various electronic and mechanical assemblies.
  • Must be able to use both manual and power driven equipment.
  • Must have the communication and interpersonal skills to professionally interface with technicians, engineers, quality assurance personnel and support personnel.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be able to follow written, verbal, and drawing instruction sets.
  • Must have a thorough technical knowledge of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protective measures and practices.
  • Incumbent is required to have some practical knowledge of reporting tools (MS Office skills).
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented.
  • Must be okay with hazard exposure due to noise levels, various chemicals, lifting, electrical shock, sharp tooling and sharp metal edges.
  • Candidate must be able to pass DOT physical and obtain a forklift license within 90 days of hire.

Target salary range: $40,001 - $80,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
