Job Details

You will join our growing team of Engineers and Geologists.

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will lead and assist in a full range of tasks spanning from project design and construction to geotechnical investigations, including the following:

• Develop field investigations, sampling programs, and lab testing programs.
• Evaluate geotechnical laboratory data along with engineering geologic conditions.
• Develop geotechnical models for analysis.
• Independently perform a wide variety of geotechnical engineering analyses.
• Prepare Geotechnical and Foundation Design reports.
• Manage projects independently and with supporting staff, including proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and deliverables.
• Actively expand technical expertise to integrate into our diverse team of Engineers and Geologists; this includes gaining experience in related engineering fields - civil, structural, and pavement.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (with Geotechnical Engineering coursework)
• Licensed CA Professional Engineer and Licensed CA Geotechnical Engineer
• 5 or more years of relevant, full-time experience in geotechnical engineering
• Experience with geotechnical engineering tasks, including:

Geotechnical investigations, including all types of field exploration and drilling.
Strong working knowledge of soil mechanics and practical application to engineering projects.

Experience with evaluating:

• Hillside slope stability
• Settlement
• Liquefaction and related hazards (i.e., seismic settlement and lateral spreading)
• Deep and shallow foundations
• Geotechnical parameters for standard civil structures (i.e., retaining walls, shoring, etc.)

Development of practical and project-specific recommendations based on geotechnical engineering analyses.
Prepare geotechnical reports independently and as part of a geotechnical engineering team.

• Ability to write basic spreadsheet programs.
• Experience with preparing proposals, managing budgets, and interfacing with clients.
• Strong written, communication, and interpersonal skills, committed to excellent client relations.
• Self-motivated and comfortable working autonomously and in a team-based environment.
• Attention to detail, efficient time management, collaboration, and support for other team members, including mentoring staff.
• Vehicle to perform field work on geotechnical projects.

For More Experienced Candidates - Preferred Qualifications

• Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical Emphasis)
• Experience as a geotechnical lab or field soils technician
• Understanding of Engineering Geology
• Project Management experience with service to public agencies and private clients
• Proficiency with various types of geotechnical engineering software
