Description:
As a member of Planning, Design, & Construction (PDC) Department, the Senior Architectural Planner will act as a statewide resource by independently and collaboratively directing and leading efforts in support of the delivery of remarkable patient care. This position supports Trinity Health Corporate and RHM initiatives, capital projects, and facilities improvements and operations at all facility campuses and associated ambulatory sites in Michigan. Works to safeguard and promote the interests of the Regional Health System in all projects through management of appropriate design, quality standards, and regulatory compliance. Takes the lead to ensure that best practice and Trinity guidelines and standards are adhered to with understanding and articulating interaction between physical space and the development/evolution of clinical and support processes. Job includes research and benchmarking as required from an internal and external perspective to support preferred practice in the State, as well as leveraging experience and best practice information from project to project and facility to facility, to ensure consistently appropriate, efficient, and exemplary outcomes.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
Education
Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, planning or equivalent professional degree.
Licensure
Professional registration/certification through state and federal regulatory boards is desirable.
Experience
15-20 years of experience in architectural planning (5-7 years in health care preferred).

Job Knowledge
- Demonstrates leadership ability to build teams and collaboratively arrive at solutions to complex issues. Ability to recommend and implement systems and process planning improvements. Knowledge of required software to prepare project presentations, construction documentation, electronic document sharing, and project tracking including Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, AutoCad Architectural Desktop, Revit, 3D Studio Max, Sketchup, BlueBeam, DropBox, Docunet, Newforma and others. Strong working knowledge in MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, QuickBase. Strong written and verbal skills.
- Presentation and project review skills. Ability to provide justification and guidance to reach consensus that leads to successful alignment with Trinity standards and operational efficiencies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides architectural expertise for the Region in matters pertaining to strategic and master planning, facility design, construction, cost containment and code conformance for the State of Michigan.
- Maintains good working relationships with outside governing bodies and agencies. Provides professional contact with officials and inspectors, to ensure positive, open lines of communication. Represents RHMs at township board and planning commission meetings and the like as required.
- Provides comprehensive architectural oversight of multiple projects in various stages of development and/or construction.
- Participate in capital planning with primary stakeholders including the executive teams throughout the State.
- Best practice LEAN Examples & Benchmarking
- Prepares RFQ and RFP documents for engaging with consultants involved with facility planning and design. Assists in the selection of architectural, engineering, and interior design consultants for building construction projects in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Assists Executive Leadership Teams with capital planning activities.
- Implements design and space standards in accordance with Trinity Health guidelines. Ensures consistencies in design throughout Trinity Michigan facilities.
- Provides staff supervision and oversight on all project work. Acts as mentor/resource to other staff working toward professional advancement and/or certification.
- Provides owners representation to ensure consistent and appropriate application of Health System quality requirements and budget dollars.
- Provides thorough review of project solution options, preliminary designs, schematic designs, design development, construction documentation, construction specifications, budget cost estimates (including design, materials, equipment and labor), construction and bidding documents, and project leadership for capital projects.
- Conducts feasibility studies for capital projects and makes recommendations for the justification of the expenditures and reviews all alternate solutions.
- Gathers and evaluates data pertaining to physical and functional planning and prepares reports indicating findings. Consults with administration to determine project priorities and recommends design solutions.
- Understand implications and assist with education programs related to new technology, processes and procedures in order to prepare physicians, nurses, clinical aides and support staff for daily operations in their new spaces.
- Maintains knowledge of regulatory codes and current trends/developments in the specialized and complex field of Health Care Design and Planning through continuing education and professional affiliations. This includes reading appropriate print and electronic books, journals and other literature and attending conferences, seminars and the like.
- Facilitating the issuance, monitoring, and performance of consultants to maintain schedule and budget. Define and implement strategy to maintain budget and schedule commitments. Coordinate with other project managers to facilitate integration and consistency of all projects within the region.
- Responsible for tracking the project budget, ensuring project costs are within budget, taking appropriate action and involving appropriate decision makers to maintain and manage the project within budget. Define and implement strategy to maintain budget and schedule commitments.
- Driving overall project schedule by energizing the organization to meet the scheduled needs of the project. Tracking progress and holding owner's participants responsible for meeting these schedule commitments.
