Job Description
WHAT WE'RE DOING
Lockheed Martin's 5G.MIL Unified Network Solutions provide cohesive communications, edge processing and advanced networking capabilities for interoperable, resilient and secure connectivity and data flow across all domains. Our Unified Network Solutions leverage open systems architecture, tactical gateways, and enhanced commercial technologies to enable converged hybrid networks. The result: our customers have seamless access to the critical information they need to always stay ahead of ready.
WHO WE ARE
Within Lockheed Martin Rotary Mission Systems (RMS), we are seeking a motivated and experienced Network Engineer to join our eTech Advanced Communications team. eTech is a group focused on enterprise technologies and product lines that can broadly support and span multiple RMS lines of business. We are the advanced communications arm of our eTech organization, with the main goal of providing multi-domain solutions across RMS. Our work focuses on secure, resilient, and interoperable tactical networks, providing our customers with the ability to deliver prompt and decisive action on the battlefield. In addition, our team is leveraging Lockheed Martin's 5G.MIL technology for insertion in RMS Internal Research and Development (IRAD) programs, Contracted Research and Development (CRAD) programs, and key captures.
THE WORK
As a Network Engineer, you will be supporting the development, integration, and test of various advanced communication systems for IRAD, CRAD, and contracted programs. The Network Engineer's job is to integrate the piece parts of the system to ensure connection and communication.
On a day-to-day basis you will be working within various advanced communication architecture environments, with tasking that can encompass multiple activities, including but not limited to:
Generating system level test plans and executing test processes
Assisting in buildup, development, integration, and test of various communication systems
Assisting with system level hardware and software integration
Networking including proxy management, switch configuration, and cable management
Operating in a Linux operating system
WHO YOU ARE
This role is best suited for engineers who are interested in working on technology that is brand new to the Defense and Aerospace industry. We are looking for an individual who can work through dependencies, tackle critical issues quickly, and jump in wherever the team has a need, even if it may not be the typical networking engineering responsibilities. Being a team player who is willing to learn new technologies will allow you to thrive in this role.
Unlike many other positions here at Lockheed Martin, which involve work with proven, already designed systems, much of this job will require someone who is ready and willing to learn something new with agility. In addition, it will require someone who is able to quickly adapt and change direction should the circumstances warrant it. Working in a research and development environment can be extremely rewarding but also challenging. In order to excel, each person must have the mindset of knowing that their work will form the foundation of military application communications systems for decades to come.
Basic Qualifications
Experience managing a network architecture
Knowledge in some areas of networking such as proxy management, switch configuration, cable management/organization
Comfortable in Linux OS Command Line Interface
Experience writing scripts
Experience generating system level test plans
Experience supporting test processes
Desired skills
Experience with requirements development
Experience with continuous integration, continuous development (CI/CD) testing
Knowledge of 3GPP and/or 4G/LTE standards
Experience with system level hardware and software integration
Experience managing a network architecture
RF Radio integration experience
