Job Details
Job Title: Network Technician
Contract Duration: 12 months
Work Location: Hybrid 3 days onsite, 2 days remote
Candidate Location: Must be a South Carolina resident or willing to relocate at their own expense. Occasional travel to client locations across SC.
Project Scope
The Network Technician will assist in improving the agency's facilities documentation and contribute to a comprehensive dashboard system providing visibility into all assets. Reports directly to the Senior Network Architect.
Key Responsibilities
Network Infrastructure Support
- Install, configure, and implement LAN and wireless systems including switches, cabling, and access points.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network issues; identify root causes and recommend preventive measures.
- Monitor network performance and document incident resolutions.
- Maintain and update SOPs, diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Support hardware and network design, configuration, and planning for infrastructure upgrades.
- Maintain inventory of network assets and assist with lifecycle planning.
- Research and recommend new networking technologies for integration.
Facilities & Dashboard Support
- Collaborate with Facilities and Finance to maintain updated facility inventory with property, network, and cost details.
- Update office floor plans and equipment placements.
- Develop and maintain a centralized dashboard integrating floorplans, personnel data, and system metrics.
- Ensure facility data is accurate, comprehensive, and easily reportable.
Project-Based Initiatives
- Conduct network closet audits and organize to industry standards.
- Maintain "as-built" CAD/PDF diagrams including cabling and rack layouts across 68 locations.
- Perform on-site cellular signal assessments to support SD-WAN carrier decisions.
Expected Deliverables
- Network closet audit reports with before/after documentation.
- Updated network floorplans for all offices.
- Monthly status reports summarizing progress and hours.
- SOPs for patching and network closet organization.
- Operational dashboard displaying complete facility and system data.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of data network services and communications.
- Experience with network design, configuration, and equipment setup.
- Knowledge of office automation systems, fiber optics, and hardware/software related to networking.
- Experience in system analysis, testing, and maintenance.
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation and communicate findings effectively.
Preferred Skills
- Advanced knowledge of network configuration and protocols.
- Proficiency in cable management, patch panels, and fiber optics.
- Experience with wireless infrastructure, SD-WAN, Azure, and VoIP systems.
- Ability to create detailed documentation for configurations, troubleshooting, and incident management.
- Familiarity with government IT environments.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. (Equivalent experience may substitute year-for-year for degree.)
Certifications
- None required; relevant certifications such as Network+ or CCNA are a plus.
