Job Title: Database Administrator (Senior)

Duration:12 months+ (possible extension for multiple years)

Position Description: Detail-oriented and dependable Database Administrator (DBA) who will be responsible for ongoing maintenance, monitoring, and performance tuning of production databases supporting a cloud-base web application. This is a support-focused role, working closely with application support analysts, DevOps, and developers to ensure high availability, data integrity, and performance in a live operational environment.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Production Database Support
  • Provide day-to-day operational support for cloud-hosted production and non-production databases (e.g., AWS RDS, ...).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents, service requests, and performance issues.
  1. Monitoring & Performance Tuning
  • Monitor database health using appropriate tools (e.g., CloudWatch, or third-party solutions).
  • Analyze slow queries, optimize SQL performance, and tune indexes to enhance responsiveness.
  • Address capacity and storage concerns proactively.
  1. Backup, Recovery & Maintenance
  • Manage automated backups and restore testing processes.
  • Ensure database recovery strategies are documented and tested regularly.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as statistics updates, integrity checks, and log management.
  1. Security & Compliance
  • Apply and monitor role-based access controls (RBAC) and user privileges in production environments.
  • Assist in audits and ensure adherence to security and compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, SOC 2)
  • Apply patches and updates to maintain compliance and security posture.
  1. Collaboration & Documentation
  • Work closely with application support and engineering teams to resolve data-related application issues.
  • Document standard operating procedures (SOPs), data dictionaries, and knowledge base articles.
  • Support reporting teams with access to reliable and optimized data sources.

Education: This position requires a Bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related discipline.

General Experience: The proposed candidate must have at least eight (8) years of DBA experience with a strong focus on operations support in a cloud environment.

  1. Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, and RedShift.
  2. Experience supporting cloud-based infrastructure (e.g., AWS RDS)
  3. Solid understanding of production database monitoring, support, and troubleshooting best practices.

Specialized Experience:

  1. Experience working in a 24/7 production support environment.
  2. Exposure to ticketing systems (e.g., JIRA, ServiceNow)
  3. Familiarity with ITIL processes or experience in an ITSM-based organization.
  4. Experience with automation or scripting for operational tasks (e.g., Python, Bash)
  5. Certifications: AWS Database Administrator certification is a plus.
