Responsibilities

We are seeking a Spacecraft Communications RF Equipment Technician to join our team at the Fort Irwin Complex in California to support our Space Communications Network Services Contract (DSN) with NASA.

Under minimal supervision the RF technician will test, maintain and modify GDSCC Tracking Station equipment related to RF and microwave sub-systems. Such equipment includes, but is not limited to, transmitter, receiving and cryogenic microwave devices.

The Deep Space Network is NASA's international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft and receiving their never before seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it.

Responsibilities

Implementing Engineering Change Orders (ECOs);
Providing problem resolution of issues through the use of advanced technical knowledge
Troubleshoot and repair of failures using sub-system documentation, drawings and schematics
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance actions to ensure subsystem operation and performance within required standards
Use state-of-the-art-test equipment and common hand and power tools
Provide technical guidance to lower level positions as required
Perform all duties consistent with this classification as assigned
Collect and provide analysis of technical data
Collaborate with other departments as necessary to meet customer requirements
Proficient in office computer use Word, Excel, Outlook, Windows 98, Windows XP, Windows NT, Linux and MAXIMO
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma
4+ years' directly related experience with high and low power transmitter and/or receiving systems, knowledge of electrical troubleshooting, knowledge of water systems to include pumps and regulation.
Must possess and retain a valid California drivers' license
Must be able to climb antenna's up to 200+ feet.
Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
Must possess good written and verbal communication skills. Must be motivated, safety minded and demonstrate a team attitude. Must also have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Must be capable of recognizing potential hazards and follow all safety equipment procedures
Must be able to follow applicable regulatory agency and site-specific guidelines and to properly document all job-related activities
Must be able to obtain a trusted background check and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC). In order to obtain a clearance, you need to be a and show proof of citizenship.
