RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking an AS400 Administrator in Fulton, MD.

Summary:
The AS400 Administrator is an essential part of the IT infrastructure team, responsible for maintaining, securing, and optimizing the organization's IBM iSeries/AS400 systems. This role involves both hardware and software management, with a particular emphasis on ensuring robust backup procedures, effective disaster recovery strategies using technologies like Mimix and Global Mirror, and smooth system upgrades. The right candidate will bring strong technical know-how, creative problem-solving abilities, and a dedication to continuous improvement and dependable support for end-users.

Key Responsibilities:
* Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain IBM iSeries/AS400 systems, including hardware, operating systems, and related components
* Oversee and execute comprehensive backup and recovery operations, utilizing advanced techniques and tools such as flash copy, Mimix, and Global Mirror to ensure data integrity and high availability
* Manage system upgrades and migrations, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum continuity for business operations
* Monitor system performance, analyze logs, and perform tuning to ensure optimal efficiency and uptime
* Manage user accounts, permissions, and security settings to safeguard system integrity and compliance with organizational policies
* Implement and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions to protect critical business data
* Troubleshoot and resolve system, hardware, and software issues, providing timely escalation or coordination with vendors as necessary
* Apply system patches, service packs, and software updates to keep the environment secure and up to date

REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
* 3+ years of experience administering IBM iSeries/AS400 systems in a medium to large-scale enterprise environment
* Hands-on experience with advanced backup and recovery strategies, including proficiency with Mimix, Global Mirror, and flash copy technologies
* Experience with backup and recovery procedures, high availability, and disaster recovery planning
* Proven expertise in performing system upgrades, migrations, and maintenance with minimal business disruption
* Thorough understanding of IBM i (OS/400, i5/OS) operating systems, hardware architecture, and system utilities
* Familiarity with database administration and integration, particularly DB2 on IBM iSeries
* Knowledge of network protocols, TCP/IP, and integration with Windows or UNIX environments
* Proficiency in system monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
* Solid scripting skills in CL, RPG, or shell scripting languages

Preferred:
* Experience with IBM Power Systems hardware upgrades or migrations
* Experience in integrating AS400 with external systems and modern applications via APIs or middleware solutions
* Expertise in security administration, auditing, and compliance management on AS400
* Exposure to automation and orchestration tools relevant to IBM i environments
* In-depth knowledge of and experience with Mimix, Global Mirror, flash copy, and advanced backup technologies
* Familiarity with ITIL or similar IT service management frameworks
* Ability to participate in after-hours On-Call rotations and provide support during system emergencies or maintenance windows

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
